I'm a recreational cyclist who does weekly 10 mile/16 km time trials and perhaps one yearly criterium (Cat 5). August 2004 celebrates my 40th anniversary of riding on a derailleur-equipped bicycle!

First derailleur-equipped bike: 1964 Schwinn Sierra 15 speed (converted to 45 speed in an insane moment).

First "good" bike: Louisan Bobet (built by Mercier), 1969
Current ride: '98 Litespeed Vortex w/'98 Record 9 Annual mileage: approx 11K, including 1500 miles of commuting on a Cannondale hybrid

Former owner: Cyclo-Pedia mail order cycling parts business (1980-1985)

Pet peeve: boutique wheels that offer no performance improvements for an extra $200 (Ha!).
