Wool Jersey

Been thinking about getting one for a while, Dan's mention of pinebury in another thread put me over the edge. Got a long sleeve from them and wore it today, also liked being able to support small business, first time I've ever worn a wool piece of kit.

To summarize- why the hell does anyone ride in anything else if they aren't racing? LOL I've heard all the accolades about the qualities of merino wool but it's another to experience it. Just amazingly comfortable, insulates nice (had to get warmed up first, was a bit chilly for the first 5min with the wind), wicked the sweat away but didn't get soggy with it. On the drive home I felt dry and comfortable whereas with lycra it would have been a wet mess.

Didn't realize I was pointing the camera right at the sun, tried to show off the jersey a little better.

How was the outside temps Rob, and did you have a layer under?

I've had this Kucharik for a decade, just almost exactly it turns out. ;) In fact I posted 10/16/14 here when it landed. Made is US, my main impetus.

I can only use it pretty much below 40ish degrees. If I wear only the merlino jersey, even 50 is getting warm.

FYI, wool stinks if you sweat into it, so too warm and sweat into, you need to soak it after that kinda use.
Also, I recommend when on a hanger, fold the arms/sleeves up and over so all the weight is not on the shoulder seams.

If yours is made like this @ pockets, watch loading the pockets. It puts pulling stress on the back. Even though it is reinforced with little triangles at stress points. Elaine has sewn a bit on one side, I see taking the pic that the other side of middle pocket is doing it.

So I'd like to hear if how these are constructed these types of issues are addressed.

Fresh Pic:

was high 40s, low 50s when I started. Was a bit chilly at first but once I warmed up I was toasty. No base layer, wanted the full wool experience.

Have standard 3 pockets....will watch overloading, thanks for the warning.

Sweaty...yeah, had a sweet spot workout today, got the salt residue on the jersey to prove it. Will take good care of it.

I have the exact same jersey as Rob, and the same opinion (though I haven't ridden hard enough to leave a salt residue:)

The pockets are reinforced with a stretchy material inside.

Normally I can't get out of sweaty cycling clothes fast enough when I get home...but this was so comfortable and dry that I kind of forgot I had them on for a while.

Probably a good thing I live alone...lol
