Unless he admits that he, like all of his contemporaries, was doping, I don't really have much interest in what he has to say. He may not have "intentionally" taken anything, but the likelihood that the team doctors and soigneurs weren't slipping something into his bottles or "vitamin shots", is about zero, given the culture of the day. He knows that, but that's probably why "he doth protest too much". He was a great athlete and deserves credit for that, but I suspect he's also a hypocrite.

I thought I could see when he reverted to 'the story' in an area or two...

Obviously, I have no way of knowing anything about what GL did or didn't do, but I do see a (moral, anyway) difference between him knowing and not knowing. If he actually didn't know he didn't know and I don't think he owes anyone any explanations in that case. Even if there is a suspicion, that's not proof and that's not knowledge.

It's not unreasonable to do so, given the times we're talking about. Merckx is still considered the greatest of all time and I'm sure he was juicing on whatever juice they had back then.
[EDIT] and a quick search shows the Eddie tested positive. Ok, so maybe a bad example or perhaps the perfect one. I had no idea he'd ever tested positive and been sanctioned. If we can still idolize him then I'm not going to point fingers at GL for a 'maybe'.

Agree, I do. It seems Lemond does go into a canned mode on certain topics.
I liked hearing the Hinault accounting from the horse's mouth, finally.

I suspect that with Lemond, it falls into the realm of "willful ignorance", as in: Don't tell me what you're giving me so I don't have to admit it or lie about it.
