UCI bans supertuck as of 4/1/2021 [and more]

And not an April Fools bit either.

Additional rule changes as well targeting saftey, including barrier stuff.

Just delving in:

https://www.uci.org/inside-uci/press-releases/road-cycling-the-uci-announces-the-introduction-of-numerous-measures-to-improve-rider-safety-as-of-2021

excerpt: [no surprise]

- improved security in delicate sectors, especially the finish zone and its barricade lines, with the establishment, led by experts, of a set of standards for barriers used in the final of events, in particular for bunch sprints; such standards necessarily being established in consultation with stakeholders and taking into account the characteristics of modern professional cycling;

I was wondering about the supertuck ban, as I saw Julian Alaphilippe use it in a race within the last few days. I thought the ban had already gone into effect.

I read the whole blurb and it definitely sounds positive on paper. Hopefully, they'll implement it effectively.

Well, the UCI has finally moved to ban the biggest scourge in professional cycling: post-race hugs between teammates and staff

https://www.bicycling.com/news/a35812646/uci-updated-covid-19-health-protocol-bans-finish-line-hugs/?source=nl&utm_source=nl_byc&utm_medium=email&date=031321&utm_campaign=nl23199059&utm_term=AAA%20--%20High%20Minus%20Dormant%20and%2090%20Day%20Non%20Openers%20%28NEW%29

I feel much better knowing that this horrible practice will finally cease!

Really?

That is about the stupidest thing ever. It is not like the peloton in motion isn't already a few hour tight knit spreader fest that preceded any celebratory end of stage hug.

The E3 SaxoBank Classic, which takes place on 26 March, has introduced new roadside barriers....new barriers were produced to increase safety in sprint finishes, specifically to avoid spectators leaning in front of the oncoming race to take pictures.

The new barriers look promising, but the UCI apparently still can't get its act together:

Hugging at the finish of a race is banned, but apparently "hugging" road furniture is OK.
