-Tour De France 2020

Figured we'd be talking about this a little. ;)

I thought I'd move/split posts from the two TDF threads to a central point.

I was also going to move 2020 LeeW's post "TdF,
Krijswick..." But been so long since I went into MOD mode can't seem to do it. ;)

Split off Froome/recovered thread:

Sponsorship and kit change it seems:

Team Ineos to be known as the Ineos Grenadiers for Tour de France

Anyway, if we do have an Ineos show, it should look different in a few ways.

I am actually excited about watching this year. Last year we only watched the youtube NBC recaps which where 14 minute on avg each.

Ineos Grenadier

A change of name, not a change in sponsorship:

Grenadiers is added, no? Should I have said an addition to sponsorship? ;) Still a change, just not the main sponsor. Unless I am misunderstanding sponsor hierarchy.

Opinion?

If GT and CF are still actually on and contracted w/Ineos until end of season... What of the Vuelta roster I wonder.

It will depend on their form at that time.

I'd have to agree with Brian.

It seems Thomas is a little off, but CF may have too far to come back at his age (35), as Sparky pointed out last year. Remains to be seen.

Since there currently aren't many multi-day events against other high caliber racers to gauge their progress against while the Tour goes on, I suspect Ineos will be testing CF and GT weekly and charting Watts/kgm ratios, which seem to be a reasonable indicator of predicted short-term performance.

Looking forward to watching the TdF!
Wondering if NBC will tell Phil Liggett (and possibly Bob Roll) to stay home due to virus risk? Also wondering what will happen when the Tour follower crazies pack in elbow-to-elbow on the mtn top finishes. Would they stop the Tour if there were virus outbreaks in the spectators, but not necessarily in the riders and support staff?

Stay tuned!

"Wondering if NBC will tell Phil Liggett (and possibly Bob Roll) to stay home due to virus risk? "

Seems the 'booth' could be anywhere the data can be piped into from the road, no?

And perhaps the 'booth' can be environmentally cleaned and controlled in staff as to be deemed safe? Separation et al, etc etc.

But I want to see is Jen's [mic in hand with a face on] wearing a mask that sez 'Shut up CV-19" across the front.

If all commentary is done from one remote booth in one secure location, they might go ahead with that.

However, if there is any travel involved at all, with changes of hotels and eating out at cafes, I'm thinking they will give Phil (at least) a leave of absence for this one.

Seeing that in the baseball world. The Baltimore Orioles, for example, decided to give their regular TV announcers the year off on the basis of unacceptable risk, because both (Jim Palmer and Gary Thorne) are in their 70s. Other teams doing similar.

Why wouldn't they just use a bus or a camper for the duration of the race? With the reduced number of fans, there should be plenty of room. That way, they wouldn't need to change accommodations nightly.

Then again, spending a night in close quarters with Bob Roll might be like sleeping with a bear...

"sleeping with a bear..."

LOL.

I've heard in commentary he is a trip to go eat with, and to be avoided. He still eats like he needs stage calories or something.

I forget which of the Sports Gold recent replays I watched, I think C_Vand~ and C_Horner jawing/filling during commentary.

I'm watching nbc/sn coverage. Glad to hear Phil and Bob working the "play by play".

Looks like the 2 Steve's (Porino and Schlenger) have been replaced with Euro guys.

That Ineos Kit looks more black, and pretty innate. Went for the Darth Vador effect maybe. ;)

NBCSN Limited Coverage

I was setting my dvr this morning for the rest of the TDF coverage and to my surprise there are no listings after stage 5. Does anybody have any links to available European coverage? I'd be tempted to use Sports Gold if they had a TDF only package for $10 to $20 but no luck.

As for Steve Porino he and a few other crew members were barred from entering France, probably Covid related. I heard Phil L. mention that during the coverage.

> Stage 5, search PaceLine. I saw comment about this over there.

Side note. Live stream feed on SP Gold allowed rewind during live, liked that. Didn't do this previous years.

But guess what happend when the live coverage stream ends while you are 1.5 hours behind.

Yep, Coverage ended pos up, and you gotta wait for it to get onto the On Demand replay side. Thanks, right in the middle of the stage I gotta wait to finish it. Why am I surprised.

Reiterating the math of the price jump to 55.00 in 2019. If they kept it @ 39.00 like 2018 I'd have left the auto renewal in place. So instead NBCSG got 39.00 and 9.99 for 2018-19 from me instead of 78.00 if I let it auto renew had they not upped it so much. Yada.

Then it started to work before hitting the replay side next [last] time I tried... Instead of just displaying the concluded banner/screen.

Ion Izagirre's slide was impressive. ;)

NBCSN?

I don’t mess with DVR, but the NBCSN web page still shows coverage of each stage.

Where’s Jensie?

I'm confused.

Which "post embrace" are we referring to?

I only recall the Astana incident with M A Lopez skidding into the signpost.

What a mess yesterday! It sucks that Gilbert is out, as he usually animates the race quite a bit. Astana proved that their DS is apparently a fookin' idjit, who nearly cost them their team leader.

Exciting racing today. Luckily dry roads and what a great landscape. Great riding area for a spring or autumn riding holiday.

LeeW, you are totally correct. superman Lopez was the victim.
(And now I am confused, Landa or Lopez?)
