Not really entertainment, but this is the best analysis I've seen of the predicted effect of various responses to the pandemic:

For those who may be interested, the Metropolitan Opera is free streaming a different opera from its HD archives every day. This week is Wagner Week. I've been partaking while on my trainer (no, not for all 4 hours . . .).

I made this for my family. My parents just weren't getting it.

You should send it to the Moron-in-Chief at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave - he doesn't get it either. On last night's news he was blathering about getting things back to normal by Easter.

Now now.

I quit coming here because it became the Democratic Underground. Google that one up.

I stuck around for many years with a POTUS I didn't care for but didn't bring that here. I didn't bring my views to the forum.

Maybe social distancing needs to be practiced in other ways. Ima gonna go for a hike.

As usual, he's thinking only about himself and he's in an absolute panic that if the economy tanks, his chances of re-election do too. Typical of him, and disgusting.

Erik, I'm quite conservative politically, but when Trump or anyone else does something stupid, irresponsible, self-serving, rude or mean, we need to call them out on it. Bad behavior is bad behavior, whether you agree with whoever's policies or not, and giving anyone a pass just encourages more of it. That applies everywhere and to every politician.

A while back, we actually agreed to back away from political discussions here and I shouldn't have contributed to this digression from that policy.

Well, to get away from the political side of things...

Our group cycling is out for the duration, so my wife and I have been going out for rides on our own (while it is still permitted - at the moment we can leave the house for buying food, dog walking, and exercise). There are quite a few other cyclists around, either riding solo or like us as couples. Considerably fewer cars, as all businesses classed as non-essential have been forced to shut down.

Not having a group to keep up with means that we can potter around and stop where we normally wouldn't. This rather nice spot on the Murrumbidgee River about an hours ride away was completely deserted when we stopped there yesterday morning:

In the current environment, it's hard to avoid the political. Maybe not the "personal" political, but virtually every topic touches on something that can be a comment on political questions, especially during a siege like we are currently experiencing. Do the normal rules of discourse still apply?

I've said before that one reason I enjoy this forum (although mostly as a lurker) is that people here are pretty sane, informed and thoughtful. And differences of opinion need not be divisive, as long as the conversation remains polite.

Just my opinion.

Agree

I never bought the non-political bit. I seldom raise political issues here, and I stop reading threads I find repetitive, but I think people should be free to say what they want. If others choose to stay away, that’s their call. We don’t have internet flamers here. Just my $.02.

I hope ErikS will stick around. I (and probably we) always welcomed his input and views.

I never watched the TDF last year. I just YouTubed the 14-17 minutes NBC recaps and was glad I was out more not sitting if front of the TV so much, a lot of hours get eaten up over the 3 weeks [in prime riding season]. ;)

Watching it now, SportsGold had a $9.99 until 5/1 renewal I will cancel prior to that happening. 2019 TDF Stage 6 was sick, ach der lieber!!

Mowed thru the DufyMayonnaise, now TDF, then onto the Vuelta...

Being after the now 55.00 renewal that will have little post 5/1 to offer... I quit when they raised it past 39.00.

I think I should get my 9.99s worth...

As far a Erik, he is welcome here. And I am both sorry and disappointed when he felt here was a comfort place in this time... Well it is done I guess.

Further I'd say, as challenging as I found April to interact around, sorry she decided she was done as well.

I did not know April left. I was wondering where she was, and if she was all right. When you just drop in now and then, the gaps can get pretty big.

She seemed to have taken her toys and went home a while back.

When a few folks critiqued one of her rude fests, her last one I guess. She did a an Evanesco. [In Harry Potter Speak]

As with Erik now, a sad blow to what passes for diversity round these partz. But then again, spade/spade et al.

Well

In April’s case it was a bit more than “critiquing” - there was profane antagonism on both sides. I’m not parceling out blame.

Erik left because someone criticized Trump. While I also value Erik’s input on a number of subjects, I’m not going to say I will not criticize Trump.

"I’m not going to say I will not criticize Trump"

I do it 'A Lot' Just not here.

I won't link to Anthony's posts on the subject/thread, nor quote his eMail to me before he actually came in and asserted his position on 'Politics' here.

I won't say which forum member, but the txts between US regarding POTUS is chock full of sentiment. Not to mention creative and colorful metaphor. You know who you are. ;)
