making your one bike count

with a De Rosa with retrofriction, why would you need another road bike? Do not lament the Merlin or Calfee, they are extraneous (dunno what a Truth is). Kudos

An Ellsworth Truth is a MTB, a sweet responsive ride, I hear. Now if the snow would melt, I'd get off the treadmill and ride my bike for the first time in nearly a year!

What? Heresy!!

If the snow melts then the most fun you can have, at least on a MTB, stops happening!!!

I'm not the Anvil bottleneck

As far as I know, Don has stopped building frames and is completely focusing on fixtures now. Just no time with the volume he's been doing. I actually haven't spoken to him in probably 5-6 months, which is weird. Plus last I heard DW is involved in downhill, and Don is actually giving himself time to ride, so sometimes you need to focus on the profitable end of the business (my guess, not a quote from Don).

I haven't completely given up hope on ever seeing an Anvil hardtail, but I built up a Surly Instigator so I had something to ride.

Let's see, my list, latest to oldest (note the herd has thinned precipitously over the past year!)

Hampsten Strada Bianca Ti with S&S couplers, WoundUp LardAss overbuilt fork, Ultegra long reach calipers, Record Triple elsewhere

Anvil Road, Record double group

Anvil cross, old Record ergo, Ritchey crank

Surly Instigator - Fox 130mm fork, Avid mechanical discs, beefy bike

Bianchi Tangent cross/commuter bike - Suntour XC Pro, racks, lights, one of my favorites

Trek Y22 - rear Strata shock is dead, replacements are $300, anyone need a 8 speed SRAM parts bike?

Fuji S12-S converted to fixie

old Panasonic lugged steel 65cm frame built up into an upright bar city singlespeed

In my defense, I sold 6 bikes this winter!

no duplication

LeMond Tete De Course (currently being warrantied. If they can't come up with an '06 which seems likely at this point, this may turn into a shop credit and then a Strong Foco custom. I really like the LeMond, but guess what I'm hoping for.)

Schwinn Super Le Tour fixie commuter

Kona cross

Salsa Scandium hardtail

Partially cannibalized old steel Bianchi, A box full of parts and a Giant NRS team mtb frame on the wall.

That new Raleigh fixie is on the wish list. A fixie not set up for commuting would be fun.

4 and counting..

2005 Seven Elium SG
2002 Seven Alaris
1989 Cannondale R600
1973 Raleigh Supercourse (not put together just yet)

My wife asked me the other day "Why do you need more bikes?"
and I answered "Why do you need so many pairs of shoes and so many handbags?"

Guess what she bought the other day.. more shoes and another handbag..

It's called payback!!

Still only 3 (different) but going to 4

This is an update:

1 road (96 Trek 2120 got trashed by car, replaced with 03 Trek 5000 carbon frame/fork), but I transfer the Campy stuff over to the new frame. So there's now a full set of components waiting to hang on a (most likely) cross frame!
1 mtn (2001 Santa Cruz Juliana Superlight dually, a mix of lx/xt components)
1 hardtail (98 Diamondback frame, 97 LX groupo, in the left coast, used when I visit)

"Almost" got a job that I can bike commute to. Would have warrant a FG (totally flat route). But since I didnt' get the job, I won't get the bike. Not enough time to ride the ones I already have.

Soon to be revised...

Roadie stuff:

Main ride -- 03 cervelo soloist with 8-spd record
2nd ride -- 90's specialized allez with 8-spd chorus/record (soon to be retired)
3rd ride -- 86 cilo SLX with full mavic from that era.

MTB:
-- 02 Rocky Mountain Instinct

HACK/Commuter:
-- early 90's rigid MTB MARIN 'Team'

Others:
-- Jake the Snake bought used, unsure of vintage (a blue one)
-- mid 80's "Cambio Rino" track bike, unused since the montreal VeloDrome closed.... sniff.

The Allez will be replaced with a cervelo SuperProdigy "under construction".

Cheers!
Allan

1.75 by my math...

One bike built up (1):
'00 Fondriest Status

One usable frame (.5):
'01-ish Surley Crosscheck (frame w/ Chorus BB only)

One frame waiting repair (.25):
'99 Marinoni Foco (slightly bent down-tube from a car-port adjustment)

Never got around to having the Marinoni repaired but thanks for the box Wayne. Neither did I ever get around to building up the Surley as a rainbike when I moved the Chorus kit over to the Fondriest.

2

Down .5 from last year.

1 Klein Q2 I keep threatening to replace but can't come up with a good reason
1 Trek 8000 HT MTB that rarely gets used, riding the MTB by myself is getting scary in my old age. I am afraid I will biff get broken and lay in the woods for hours. My legs always seem to outrun my riding skills as many roadies find out when MTB riding did not come first.

Trek 930 Single Track MTB. I paid $20 for this at a neighbr's garage sale. TalkeD them down from $50.

I put the most miles on the Surley commuting 20 miles each way to work.

Old and New Stuff

1990 - Trek 1000, my training bike, it has been through some upgrades. Still a good riding bike.
1992 - Trek 6000 mtb. I do not ride this one much. Spends most of the time gathering dust.
1993 - Trek 420, in 1996 it was retro-fitted with the S&S couplings. This bike has been all over the USA. Crashed it last year.
1993 - Daccordi, I picked up the frame at the T-town's flee market in 2001 cheap. It's Brand spanking new, was never used, now I get to enjoy it!
1993 - Trek 950, My "Fun-Bike" when I am lazy or "Beater" when it's cold and wet. It's set up like a road bike.
2003 - Litespeed Capella, my favorite ride for the last 2 years.

My Quiver

1992 Merck Corsa SL Campy 8 speed Record/Chorus mix. Old reliable, foul weather ride. A true classic in Faema colors.

2004 Orbea...asphalt carbon frame, Campy 10 speed Record/Chorus mix. FSA bars, cranks, wheels, stem. Weight weenie regular ride. 16 lbs dripping wet and yet stands up to the daily abuse of 3000 miles a year on NYC and suburbs roads.

1994 Specialized Allez comp Really my wifes bike but I think of it as my own since I just rebuilt it and since it is really, really cool. Tange prestige steel frame (with that gorgeous fastback seat cluster) aluminum fork. Came with Campy 8 speed Veloce and I just upgraded to 10 speed Veloce. Its soooooo cool because it is a teeny tiny 43cm lugged frame with 700c wheels and great geometry. None of those Terry wheel/stem/fork tricks to make a little womens bike.

2002 Kona Roast hardtail Xcountry rig. XT, avid mechanical discs, and manitou black. A dirt jumper that I built as a xcountry rig cause I dig the bottom bracket height, and because I cant break it..

2004 Jamis Dakar XLT 2 Mostly XT, Hayes hydros, Fox suspension. Fun all mountain bike.

Too many-warning no political content

Riders:

1974 Masi Gran Criterium- Campy Nouvo Record, my full retro ride
1988 Masi 3V - Various Shimano Parts 9 speed Dura Ace-Ultegra-105 mix (originally build with 50th ann. Super Record group)
1995 DBR titanium (Sandvick) -Various 9 speed Shimano parts heavy duty pave' bike
2005 Kuhota Karma- 9speed Dura Ace, my lightweight climber

Current Projects: not fully assembled or rideable

1976? Eddy Merckx (by Falcon) -Moltini team replica (low end bike)
1989 Centurian Ironman Carbon-, Shimano DuraAce AX group (including Dyna Drive)
2003 Trek 2500 Postal Frame- (just returned from Trek with infamous paint cracks) would like to sell but with"cracks" don't see how I could or should
1999 Diamondback Sherwood- was Hybrid , then Cylocross, then commuter now in the process of being converted to a loaded touring bike
Schwinn Super Sport SL- too small current frankenbike project to donate to a young rider when complete

And thee don''t count cause they are fat tires
2005 Schwinn SS Cruiser
1997 DBR V-Link full suspension
1995 DBR Vertex TR cromoly hardtail
19?? Giant something mountainbike project to get Wizzer Motor installed someday

Broken Frames:

Trek 1000 aluminum (third one to break) glue joint at down tube and head lug pulled apart (Trek sucks)
M- Cycles- hand build Columbus SP frame with mega miles, set tube pulled out of BB lug, repaired , then left seatstay broke loose from seat lug and brake bridge snapped off, this frame is permanetly retired now

and last and least 1960s vintage Raleigh Record rust bucket used on windtrainer (not really used much in last few years)

too many bikes for sure, also not so sure why we are doing this thread cause who really cares what other guys have other than to prove to each other that we are a bunch of nuts
