The aging cyclist

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-43308729

One of my fellow retiree cyclists said on reading it: "One bloke reckons he has the body fat of a 19 year-old. I can beat that - I have the body fat of four 19 year-olds."

With all the injuries and maladies forum members have suffered recently, the forum should be renamed "aging cyclist."

Or perhaps...

...we should rename it the "Convalescent Talk Forum"?

Some input

I had a follow up (probably the last) with the surgeon on my busted shoulder a couple days ago. The x-ray is not aesthetically great as the bone settled a bit during healing (perhaps to my osteoporosis) but it has healed solidly and is functionally great.

He said with a less active person of my age and with osteoporosis, he would do a replacement as it has fewer potential complications, but he figured I would wear it out "leaning over the handlebars." He said "a 67 year old guy who rides like you, I expect to live into his 90s," and the shoulder replacement might last 7 years. He said "I'm planning the rest of your life," and "I'm very careful about who I do these with." He knows about the aneurysm, a lot of docs don't look at that as a big deal.

Previously a nurse had told me they see a lot more replacements than repairs with injuries like mine.

Better to be an aging or aged cyclist than just aging or aged.

Here, here!

Exactly why I do steep hills. It gets less and less pretty probably. But I don't care if I average 4 MPH, I am still going it...

As Pete Hausner commented

While I was describing the discussions we often have at the stating line of my races in the 60+ field he said the the discussions were an "organ recital" :)

While I am at it I am often reminded of the name of Jerry Garcia's old band when I am in multi age fields "Old and in the way".......
