Nor'Easter

I heard 90mph (145kph) gusts in MA, multi-foot snow in PA. How you doing?

I took a back road home today and one lane was blocked in three places with straining wires holding back more.

Not so much snow here in western VT but wind all day and plenty of drifts. This house is pretty old and drafty, and hard to keep feeling warm. The front door has a metal weatherstrip that, in certain kinds of wind, howls like a grass-blade kazoo. I hope it gets better, as we're flying to North Dakota on Sunday.

Bomb cyclone

Not so much here. Some coastal flooding. I just got a lot of wind, and not extreme.

Hope you get some blue skies before it melts, Christmas card material even with the overcast.

12 to 14 inches of heavy wet snow here, near Rochester. I hope my 20 year old snowblower is up to the task, I don't want to shovel by hand.

We had a few last week just enough to make it pretty and melt by the end of the next day.

Walter, that sure is purty, go out on your Boost Plus bike? ;) What, don't have one?

Sandwich, MA, where Linda lives, got hit pretty hard. It appears to have washed away about a quarter mile of barrier dunes and parts of the town are flooded. The marsh behind her house is completely inundated, but her place sits high enough that's she's not affected. A few more storms like this and she'll be able to walk to the beach in a couple of minutes.

The dunes had been reconstructed after last winter's storms and it appears that all of the effort and expense were wasted.

Lost power in the house. Still in the dark.

Went to ski area but the lifts were not running... no power!

Went xc skiing instead. Snow was wet and sticky. But it beats sitting in a cold house with only ice cream for food.

I was slightly concerned about finding place to buy gas, remembering Sandy aftermath. But the power outage isn't as bad this time. So there're still gas station open. That's my main power source. For the phone, and the computer. (I now has a hot spot)

Just got the "estimated" power restoration time being end of day Monday. :(

Will try to ski again tomorrow. And probably "work late" Monday. ;-)

A little north of Philadelphia, our big problem was not the snow--we got ~3"-4"--but the winds and gusts, which drove the snow sideways and blew down trees. We lost power for ~27 hours, but the temperatures stayed above freezing, in the low-mid 40s, so we did ok.

Every restaurant that had power was jammed; likewise, every place that offered free wifi and USB ports.

Much respect (and sympathy, now mixed with a little empathy) for the people of Puerto Rico and their coping without power for how long now?

And here I am in North Dakota for the week. Out of the frying pan. Snow for the next couple of days. But it's urban, so the power stays on at least.

Got power back late last night. Sneaking through the teeth before the new storm hits us again after midnight! At least the house got warmed up and a full tank of hot water in anticipation of this new one again.

Braved the snow this morning to go get some grocery in case I got marooned by the storm. Foods that don't need refrigeration and can be eaten without cooking.

The power company said it's less of a deal this time. I'm not so sure. The branches are heavy with wet snows. Now the wind had started to pick up. That combination can't be good.

Just finished making dinner. So I'm good for tonight at least, if the power goes out again. Better not jinx myself though. Don't need another 5 days of no heat and no cooking.

"5 days of no heat"

How far into Westchester are you, Mt Kisco or something?

Good luck

I was out 6 days in October, and have 10-18" of wet snow plus wind rolling in tonight. Of course I have a well and septic system which makes things a bit more complex.

I hope the lights stay on for both of us!

Knew some folks Mt Kisco years back.

I figured by the length of the outage. Boonies has it's benefits, this is not one of them I suppose.

We have a generator, and of course have not had an outage since we got it. ;) Just gas rotation and stabilizing each winter.

With our gas fired furnace, we can run heat and lights/TV/Fridge. Just no A/C Drier Elec Range or Water heater. Actually we have a 110 5 gallon one in line for minimal sponge baths if no elec for too many days.

Phase II

We're getting about a foot of pretty nice snow, not really wet like they said. Some wind but not bad. Have done some snowshoeing. Fortunately my busted shoulder is fine for poling. Lights still on.

Light’s on (went out briefly but came back). But internet didn’t come back as quick.

Transit a mess. So stayed home but can’t work from home either as the Internet is out.

Some customers lost power twice. Or don’t know when they’ll get it back.

PLee, you up in Okemos? 20” and counties!!! Unreal!

Heading up tonight. The final count is 2 to 3 feet! With another storm on the way!

Trump Plaza Casino - Atlantic City

From last week's winter storm. Could this be a metaphor for a chink in the President's armor?

Hmm... Apologies if this belongs in the "Confused, which is the latest Trump thread?" thread.

Yeah! And “possibly some localized burst of snow shower” tomorrow too!

I’m staying at a friend’s place nearby. Debating between Okemos vs Pico. Any good easy woods at Okemo?
