Intel processor bug

As if Windows 10 updates weren't enough of a headache, seems there's a massive security flaw in ALL Intel chips manufactured in the past 10 years.

Yet another good reason...

...to buy AMD processors.

The original AmD processor

Alex's words are true to form as the security flaw ALSO applies to other microprocessors, like AMD and ARM.

Fixed?

Apparently a software fix has already been pushed out. The news I read says that the problem was identified 6 months ago and they didn't publicize it until a fix had already been installed. People who don't do updates are obviously at higher risk. I also understand that the "fix" will slow processor speed but that even though the speed reduction is significant, "most users will not notice it." Not that reassuring since "most users" are just watching cat videos and reading Facebook posts.

I wonder about those Bitcoin mining machines.

Upgrade and lose speed (significant for those machines). Not upgrade and risk getting hacked? I would think those machines will be prime targets for hackers who really want results beyond just a game. There maybe real money that can be gained.

"a software fix has already been pushed out."

Pushed out for whom?

As in Apple desktop/laptop, iOS, Lunix, Windows, Android, Basement-Working Ken's operating system software, etc....

There's multiple entities (software writers) each with their own software and with each software version, ie Microsoft Windows XP, 7, 10...Applel iOS 7,8,9,10,11, etc...

It becomes one big Cartesian product.

From what I read Apple, Microsoft and others are still not quite caught up with providing patches for ALL of their currently supported software.

It's not relevant. I think you need to read up on the subject. CPUs have not been used (profitably) in years for task. Subsequent to that, the graphics card were used instead - now long outdated. It has been all about Application-Specific integrated circuit chips (ASICs).

For whom the bell tolls

As I understand it, the OS companies have pushed the fix, and that is why the comment about machines slowing down. Not for specific software but for the OS. Of course, given my depth of knowledge on this topic, I could be completely wrong. Just repeating what I have read.
