When I last stayed at a very small and remote resort in the Philippines, a lot of plastic water bottles washed up from Vietnam and Malaysia on an otherwise tiny, clean/pristine beach.

Regarding China...

"...analysts point out that most of the waste consumed by China’s recycling industry comes from domestic sources, not imports. As for the millions of tonnes of waste that will soon be blocked at China’s border, some of the high-quality waste will find buyers in other countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam or Indonesia. The rest will probably end up in a landfill."

White pollution

It's called white pollution - all the EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam from packaging. It used to be the case (and may still be) that you could see white bands along every rail line in China.

I don't see it when I was there. Traveled by rail most of the time.

That said, I only traveled in the more affluent region, plus some tourist destinations. Can't speak for the remote part of the country.

Correspondents reporting the true state of China have a strange habit of disappearing from time to time.

Thus revealing by disappearing.
