Astana's Lopez [correction] [no spoiler]

Boy, when this kid explodes going up hill on an attack, he launches like nobody's business. Smokes!

When UHD became OLYHD maybe it fell off somebody else' TV plan too.

For anyone who gets OLYHD the Vuelta comes on three times a day, sometimes two. Including stage 14 at 10:00 tonight (Saturday.)
OLYHD listing grid

NBCSN?
Stage 16: Tuesday night at 9:00
Stage 21: Sunday night at 7:00 NBCSN listings grid
Dagnabbit

There's still the internet. Thanks for the heads up.

Huh?

I am guessing you meant to write "Lopez" ?

I have not seen L. L. Sanchez do much exploding for Astana this tour.

If so, yes, the kid can climb.

All those names sound alike;-)

I haven't seen that type of explosiveness moving away from the pack since... uh... Pantani, Armstrong, Heras, etc.

Hmmm.
I'm hoping he just has an exceptional power-to-weight ratio and high altitude cardio system.

The TV coverage doesn't normally give a speed indication on the climbs, but about 2km from the top of the 28km long "Especial" (equivalent of TdF HC) finishing climb on stage 15, the following motorbike was showing the lead bunch travelling at 29-32kph. Admittedly the gradient was only about 4% at that point (though the altitude was 2500m). We're usually pretty happy if we come back from a flattish training ride and have managed to *average* that sort of speed. 🚲

On the steep ramps of 15 to 18%, they still manage something like 12 to 15 mph. That's why we're not pro bicyclists.
