Stage 5 [Spoiler]

I thought Aru was going to puke both lungs up. Whew! This guy has quite a huge north&south, unfair advantage when gulping air maybe. ;)

What a last 6km gradient ladder with a short wall just before the line.

Maybe not really a spoiler as I will leave it at that. But taking no chance.

Anyone know what was with Aru and the non team Blue Astana Jersey? I guess I am unclear on National Champ Jersey being allow in TDF. I thought only the Current Worlds Jersey was allowed?

Aru is Italian champion, Demare is French champion, so that's two more firsts for them in the last two days. Phil points out the GB champion Cummings when the helicopter lets him. Belgium's Naesen is in the peloton. All and more resplendent in their NC jerseys. Now that I think about it Sagan's brother is Slovakian champion this year. As for the Astana jersey, if it wasnt' Aru's green white and red I don't know.

The champions are allowed to wear their jersey in the discipline so Tony Martin will wear his WC jersey in the TT.

While I agree that the race is a lot less interesting...

...and entertaining with Sagan out, it's far from over. To use a "Sherwin-ism", Aru has "thrown a cat among the pigeons" and it could get quite interesting depending on how he handles the bigger climbs. If he can gain enough time on Froome to compensate for his lesser TT skills, he may have a shot at the win. Porte is not completely out of it and who know, perhaps Quintana will find his legs again, though I doubt it.

You may be right but

I like Froome's chances after putting 39+ seconds on the Contenders in a 14k time trial. He'll doubtless put more on in the second tt. Wake me up if Aru gets a minute ahead in the GC.

I'll admit I barely follow this stuff and never heard of Aru before the stage win. But that doesn't stop me from opining.

Aru is an up-and-comer

His win was not a fluke and he's one of the young riders who's been on the rise. Whether he'll be competitive for the overall remains to be seen, but it's certainly within the realm of possibility. Hopefully, he can at least help to make the race competitive. Otherwise, it could turn into a 2 1/2 week snooze fest.

"Froome's chances"

He has been taken down several time already, remember 2014 [was it] broken wrist?? [bites tongue]

Well sure

Anything could happen. But 40 sec in a 9 mile tt, that's like Cat 1 vs. Cat 4.

True, but if the conditions are dry next time...

...I don't see him being as dominant. He took a lot more risks than other riders and it paid off, but his gains weren't just from raw strength and speed.
