Renting a Merckx Sallanches, pretty good bike, the right size but the stem is short so it's kind of more like an endurance geometry, and I can ride it fine, but prefer a bit more stretched so I'm glad I got the RSL.

Cycling content
The view is from my hotel, which is where Team Sky allegedly hangs.
Outside of a huge event, I doubt you will ever see as many recreational cyclists on the road as you do here.

Go go Mont Ventoux on any summer day
The place is crawling with hundreds of cyclists, even during the middle of the week. I suspect that Alpe d'Huez and other classic climbs in France and Italy are similar.

Yeah, here's a photo I took at the summit of the Tourmalet last summer, and I probably only got about 1/3 of the cyclists at the summit into the photo. Just about everyone in the photo is either a cyclist or driving a support vehicle for cyclists. Same with most of the other Pyreneen climbs that we did.
Strangely, I didn't find the same in Switzerland - although there were lots of cyclists around in towns and at lower levels, none of the climbs that we did had the large numbers that we saw in France. Maybe it's just that they have so many climbs to choose from...

Could be
Haven't been to those places so can't compare, but here there are a million roads, and it seems no matter what road you are on there are groups of 5-20 cyclists steaming along one after the other. Riding as I am now most of them pass me (which is no complaint, given my busted leg I'm riding great).
Yesterday I pulled over to take a pic, and the other cyclists pulled over were the Russian Speedskating Team.
