Hilarious, that static electricity has some bite to it.

Lot of volts, very little amps. Pretty sure grounding with less resistance near by would render it tolerable long enough to grab the bike.

Carbon bike needed here. ;)

Grounded

Never ran that experiment but all my experiences with electric fences suggests that insulation rather than grounding is the way to handle an electric fence.

I'm wondering why the handlebar grips didn't provide enough insulation.

Same here, as well as...

...how did the bike get hung up on an electric fence in the first place?

This reminds me of a story from a friend of mine, who came from a a family of boys raised on a farm. They convinced one of his brothers to pee on an electric fence. He never did that again!

IIRC, I think they were trying to jump the fence.

OK...

...so they really are the Three Stooges reincarnated as middle-aged mountain bikers, as I suspected. ;-)

My cousins tried the same trick with my brother and I. As "city slickers" they thought they would have some fun but we never fell for it. Apparently this is a cultural norm among farm boys!

When I was child and spent time on farms it was always fun to get the new kid to win the pee range contest. The smart boys always fell short while the new kid "won".
