I work as an election official. My voting district was wall-to-wall, long lines out the door and around the parking lot, all day, from 7 am to 3 pm, when I left after voting and having waiting in line for an hour. The district I work in (I worked from 6 am to 2 pm) was also packed, a constant flow from the moment we opened.

Lots of youngsters voting for the first time; I couldn't tell if they were motivated to vote because they feared for their future or whether voting was just another video game, with flashing lights and buttons to push. We always had our usual large contingent of older people who vote the straight GOP ticket. Surprisingly, we also had a lot of write-ins, who I assume were writing in Pence for president, instead of Trump.

One guy was in a booth for 20 minutes or so. At one point, I heard him muttering and asked if he needed any help. He replied, "I'm trying to google one of the candidates and I'm having trouble getting a connection." This while people were waiting.

I'm afraid to turn on the tv tonight or to wake up tomorrow morning.

My wife and I voted late this morning and had one person ahead of us at our polling district table. After voting we joined several thousand people at Mt. Hope cemetery to wait 1.5 hours to place our "I Voted Today" stickers on Susan B. Anthony's grave stone.

...it was the busiest I've ever seen it and that was at a little after 11:00.

The highlight of the experience was the soup and bake sale they held for the school where the polls were. It helped get rid of the bad taste in my mouth from the election.

FL = Rubio and Trump is my guess. Which dragged which I dunno...

I'd love if I am wrong and FL = Hilly.

Possibly. For the sake of keeping the race discussion open, let's assumenow Trump wins those states (if he does not, then he is likely toast mathematically)

The remaining battleground states are iowa, arizona and nevada...it will be a very late/long election hight for those of us on the east coast.

Nevada could be the achilles heal for both Trump and Clinton, as McMullin may win all of its electoral votes.

What a nailbiter.

I'm not staying up past my usual bed time.

It says a lot that I don't watch football or baseball. Whatever the result, it's a done deal.

Just as much a done deal is the country. Whatever the result of the vote, the voter had already spoken. They're so sick of the current political deadlock that they're willing to gamble on a madman. (here I don't just mean those who voted FOR Trump, but all those who gambled on any "other" candidates) Whether that's 51% of the population or 49% doesn't really make that much of a difference.

I hope Hillary wins. But I pity her having to preside over this kind of a country.

Well, we survived Warlord Bush 2nd term, didn't we? We'll survive Trump too!

Sure we'll be worse off than if Clinton is elected. But how much worse off can it really be? The problem is not Trump himself. The problem is the people who elected him. Even if Trump lost, we still have to deal with those very same voters.

While I dislike President Trump, I've said that more than once. If Brexit can happen, Trump can win the presidency.

The very notion of democracy is, even those "less analytical folks" has as much say as you.

Common sense, on the other hand, is a much better quality than IQ. And it doesn't always correlate with IQ.

I can only hope that he actually gives Priebus his chief of staff position, and that he surrounds himself with bright people. He was astonishingly gracious last night. I'm still in shock and awe but am forcing myself to remain hopeful that the weight of the office works its magic.

A pretty discouraging event and not, i would say, reflecting very well on the voting public. But the eternal optimist might still find a couple of bright spots here. First, of course, it makes likely a peaceful transition, which was not certain before. And second, incompetence is easier to identify in power than in opposition, so if Trump is as bad as I suspect he will be, his era may be shorter.
