too bad
Certainly a pioneer, good machines, good service in the few contacts I've had. I guess they're overtaken by higher tech, cheaper, more connected trainers and apps. At some point the numbers don't add up.
I'll keep cranking mine, doubt I have the wattage to wear anything out other than trainer tires.

I guess having two, one becomes the backup...
Wonder how much a load generator costs?

Wow
End of an era.
I bought mine used of of Ebay what some 10+ years ago. Use i every off season with a dedicated trainer bike that has sat on the trainer that same period. As DCrainmaker wrote it is a tank of a trainer. If I am not mistaken Racermate was a subsidiary of a fluid controls company which may be the reason it was designed as it was. The support from Racermate was top notch.Even with the fact I was not an original purchaser. I can't believe it is a large company as I knew the support guys names and listed them on their website. Because of its construction I doubt I will be needing a new trainer in the near future, software support is another mater

I'm with Rick, except mine is something like 17 yrs old. No issues. Wires are a hassle, but once its done, its done. I do have a dedicated bike, which makes a ton of difference. Might I buy a kickr? Sure, but the computrainer refuses to die. And it integrates well with the only platforms I use, ergvideo and veloreality. It would be super if Smelly had the resources to buy the company and soldier on, but he's likely going in the kickr direction too. I agree with dcr that the company is a ripe acquisition target.
They were excellent but stubborn.

When I started looking at a smart trainer, the first company I looked at was Computrainer. I knew their hardware was the best in the business and I had used one at a LBS several times. I did/do not have a pc to control it, but we have many Apple devices. I have a phone, iPad, but no laptop but I could have used Nancy's Macbook air.
They were not Apple friendly, and in the end I decided that was a deal breaker for me. It must be expensive to develop/implement software and keep up with OS changes. and updates.

Did not know about the blue flywheel recall. So thanks for the thread.
For 625.00 for an extra/backup load generator, I will pass.
From Jeff @ Racermate/CompuT
"Load generators are currently available, though several shops are gearing up to place orders, so no guarantees for how long. "
