People like spinning classes for lots of reasons. It can be a hell of a workout, and the communal aspect, with a kind of psuedo-competition, helps motivate a lot of people. There are plenty of people who like the kind of exercise cycling provides, but will never be comfortable enough riding on the roads to get that kind of a workout -- especially in a big city.
Not my thing at all, but I understand why it works.
Looking at their website, I notice the only locations in Connecticut are in a couple of very tony suburbs down on the Sound. It's a very upscale market, so yeah, showing off status is part of it.
they started in New York City, and jumped to the other coast as they expanded. Most locations are still in and around NYC, with a big clump in Southern Cal, a few in Northern Cal, and a smattering elsewhere. The only non-coastal locations are 2 in Chicago.
So that kind of tells the story. Some high-priced sweat.
