650b X 38 on Roubaix

2.5mm each side clearance, enough for fenders on top. Only 1/8" less tall than 700x25C Pave Vitts.

These are Panaracer Col de la Vie 38s I picked up for $20 to see how 650b run and might fit. Been stalling on building the 650B disc wheels for lack of tires.

The tire is 36.4mm wide mounted on a 19C rim. It is close but do-able. 50lb air ought to soften that bitch up. ;)

Wheels are really for the Strong frame incoming for woods use. But I wondered what would fit on the SL4 Roubaix.

The Col de la Vie is a pretty clunky tyre - with the ribs it squirms a bit as you're riding along. I've been using the Hutchinson 650x32 lately, which measure a true 32 on my rims (Grand Bois green label) and weigh ~280g. Plus they're an absolute steal at $21 a tyre: http://www.xxcycle.com/tyre-hutchinson-confrerie-des-650b-275-650-b-ts,,en.php

Hutch +1

I use the same Hutchinsons on my rando bike. Ride great.

My target for such a tire is not for paved use. I would just use the 27mm Pave Vitts, even for smooth non pave. Being I already have them in 25 and 27s. Definitely pricier.

I'd be curious how a 32 650 would make the bike feel, as it would lower it more than the 1/8" the Panaracer Col does.
