Cranksgiving 2014
Anyone participating in a Cranksgiving ride in your area this year? Full list of participating cities and dates can be found here: www.cranksgiving.org
My company started the Indianapolis version a couple of years ago and have had 100 riders or so each year. I did this promo spot on the local CBS affiliate this morning.

Fun stuff for a good cause in your community!

...said someone who slides across frozen precipitation on wooden planks attached to your feet for the next few months? ;)

LOL
...said wooden planks are far less efficient (uphill or flat) than wheels, making heat along the way ;-)

Now there is a topic for the boards...we are always trying to make the bike more efficient. How about ways to decrease efficiency so April can stay warm and ride in a fun Cranksgiving ride?
Drop tire pressure to 7 psi
Let a "friend" borrow her bike...that friend fills the seat tube with BBs
Rent a turkey costume and wear it during the ride
Or the obvious - at the first food purchase checkpoint buy everything in sight. Now you have 50+ lbs to carry AND you get to feel great about yourself as you make a larger donation to the supported food bank! :)

Heavy bike, low tire pressure...
That sounds like mountain biking!
I'll do that! ;-)

Just found out from the NYC organizer that the Today Show is doing a promo that involves a few of the locations that are doing the ride on 11/22:

And I believe they will feature footage from each of these locations on the Today Show on Monday 11/24...
Cool stuff!

FWIW, Nathan, a fellow at the local shop/sponsor here, said that their haul increased astronomically after they arranged for trucking the goods, instead of riders carrying what they bought.
