Headed Hills to Harbor, SC cross state ride

Headed out in the morning to ride across SC from the Greenville area to Charleston SC. I do it each year to raise money for Alzheimer's. When I first did it we had around 40 people, this year the number is 220+!!! In just 5 years!!!

I will post links to videos over the next few days. No more racing for me but once a year I like to pretend I can still ride.

Total miles is 250+, Friday-Sunday. Ride to Remember.

Have fun

Riding for a cause like that adds a different dimension. In September I have two rides for cancer support organizations back to back, 160 miles for the weekend. I also have a team in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, which is not cycling but a great event. Have a great ride.

I have a lot of riding ahead of me over the next 2 days.

Raised over 1500 now. My Grandmother was stolen from us long before she passed away by Alzheimer's. It is a personal thing and unlike most people I will admit I also do it because it is FUN!!!!

Safe travels Dan.

BTW, I saw a brand damn new Dogma totally trashed in a crash, every tube except the head tube is shattered. $12K counting wheels which are unsafe now too!!!!

Have a great ride

Finishing up in Charleston must be an incentive (I am guessing) never been but is one of the old cities in the South I would like to visit along with Savannah

I grew up in Charleston. It has a much deeper history than Savannah. Both cities are great to visit.

My son is chef at SNOBS and may just get a treat on Sunday by the restaurant.

Slightly North of Broad Street or Slightly North of Broad, something like that.

YUM!!!!!

Video from Day 1

All three days safe and sound. I saw a $12k dollar Dogma crushed in a crash on day 1. Numerous crashes that were caused by inexperience and complacency. I stayed out of trouble by staying on the from most of the time.

I made this from Day 1. approx 33.5kph average speed, lots of ups and downs throughout the day.

Way to go

Nice ride. I rode the Lobster Century Sunday and didn't see that much flat ground in he whole 100 mi...:)

How was the weather? For my ride it was only about 70F, but humid. I was fine on the ride, but definitely felt the effects of the humidity afterwards (leg cramps, wiped today). Didn't see a crash or even mechanical the whole ride. Ride on.

Day 1 was dry, but overcast as you can see in the video. Day 2 and 3 it rained, at times incessantly. Water ran out of my shoes, my bike was a pig. I am glad I used ghetto wheels. Time for some new ones. It was a total mess of $$$$ around the hotels after day 2, brake block crud looked like mud under some of the bikes. The carbon wheels where a nightmare for some folks. It was described to me as "My bike seems like it speeds up when I first touch my brakes!"

The heat was not a problem for me at all, remember I train in it every day and 85F is cool for me.

252miles over the last 3 days. My butt and legs ache now.

approx 110k (67miles). I locked my Strava privacy settings back, I opened them for the weekend so new folks I met could easily follow me. So you may get bumped if you follow my link and don't follow me already.

140K (87miles) on day 2

161K (100 miles) on day 3

They claim 252 miles give or take because of some tie to Alzheimer's.

My 100miles yesterday was a a sub 5 time.
