Cosmos was great
Totally contrary to any programming on Fox or any other network.
It was very atheistic to say the least.

I was on the road while it was on and I don't have a TV in my car (vague reference to another thread).
Does anyone know if it's going to be rebroadcast during the week?

They certainly spent a goodly amount of air time slamming the Inquisition, and by extension dogmatic religion. I thought they were quite mute on the question of the existence of one or more deities.

They show it twice every week, first on Fox, then on National Geographic channel.

I think its on National Geographic tonight, and each Monday. It was on at least 5 channels last night on Directv.

Are you suggesting that that's a question that ought to be discussed in a program about scientific discovery?
Giordano Bruno is an important figure, and he was burned at the stake for insisting that the universe is much larger than the earth and a nearby dome of lights. If telling that story is a slam against dogmatic religion, well . . . If the shoe fits . . .
Edit: I think I misunderstood your comment. You were responding to Erik's thought that it was atheistic. I agree with you that it was (properly) silent on the topic.

That was the nicer part of what 'The Church' did to Bruno apparently. In the name of God of course, not that the pattern was ever repeated or anything...

Oh they showed the church's torture device, many of them.
I guess I saw between the lines more because I am very well versed in CS and NdT with regards to atheism. NdT is very outspoken about it and of course Sagan was.
His opening lines were to the extent, scientific principles are followed in this show also the bit about Bruno was put in to ensure the viewers did not have any question about how the scientist who made the show felt about religion.
At the end of his opening, he used the terms "question everything" which is one of the basic things atheism expounds.
BTW I am a recently outed atheist. Not good where I am from as you can imagine.

As mentioned before Cosmos is repeated on Nat Geo tonight. It is on at 10 EDT. I did not see the Sagan Cosmos. I am now sorry that I missed the original as I am very impressed with the new one. There are 13 episodes and it looks like you can watch on the Nat Geo website also, after they are broadcast.

Nat Geo broadcast the original Cosmos yesterday - maybe they will do it again. Check your local listings.
