Yep, this theme has been in our local paper for the past two days. Jeff, the cyclist, shows up every so often in this strip.

Bill Watterson, the guy who did Calvin and Hobbs, was a cyclist himself and did a couple of very funny strips using Calvin's father as the cycling protagonist and of Calvin fighting with his "attack bike".

...that people don't seem to be able to tell the difference between a humorous comic strip and real life. It seems completely weird to me that anyone would comment on it at all, especially when their comments treat the characters as if they were real people. I guess some people really have no life.

Personally, I like the strip in general and enjoy the Jef episodes for what they are, a clever parody of real cyclists.

I know what you mean, Brian, but I find it humorous that "Jef the Cyclist" in fact is Jef Mallet, author of "Frazz." If you go to the Frazz website, "Pearls Before Swine" is on the recommended list, with a picture link to that particular episode. Mallett also at times prortrays Pastis (the Pearls author) in an unflattering light (of course so does Pastis).

That is my understanding... He IS a cyclist and Stephan Pastis started Jef as a Raz ??

How many people actually know that? Moreover, unless he's actually doing the things in the strip, he's just a guy doing a parody of something he enjoys. The comments make it sound like the strip is a documentary.
