Parkin,

I'm also a somewhat proud but less happy member for many years. It cracked me up when one time when I called the customer service last year, the kid in India said "Wow, you've been a member before I was born!"

While I had good service most of the time, there's been a few distinctly poor service incidents. All of them happened around the same time. As such, I feel there's a pattern of "cycle" of poor service, which I suspect due to deliberate cut back in customer service in the past. There was a time I was so dissatisfied I consider cancelling the card. Though since it's free for me, I simply stopped using it for most things and used my Visa instead. Then I noticed their customer service improved considerably. So I started using it as my main card again.

I've never had a bad service experience with them. My card has been hacked several times and, each time, AE notified me of unauthorized charges

You had better luch than I. The one time my card got compromised, I was the one who noticed it when the bill came and reported it.

quote:
My card was stolen when I was in Barcelona once and I was able to pick up a new card in two days from the local AE office.

They've just closed all the AE office in New York City starting early this year! I wouldnn't be too surprised the same happened to the one in Barcelona and other major tourist/business centers!

(yes, I specifically asked to get the card from the AE office so I don't have to sit home to wait for delivery, that's how I found out about the office closing)

Putting all that together: long wait on the phone, end of day delivery instead of morning delivery, closing of local office. I conclude they're on their customer service cut back mission AGAIN!
