GoPro, Anyone?

Thinking about picking up a Hero3 GoPro. Anyone have one or one of the earlier models? Easy to operate and down/upload videos and picts? How's the battery life?

Thanks.

Road with a guy using one three weeks ago. He said he gets about 2.5 hours out of it and the still grabs are acceptable but not stellar.

My sister has one she uses as her go to sports and travel camera now. She is not a photog type and finds it works well for her.

Make sure you get the waterproof set up.

Have tried the GoPro, Sony, Oregon Scientific, Contour, and the Panasonic.
GoPro and Sony were way too bulky with the waterproof cover.
Oregon was cool with front/rear cameras but suffers from poor build quality and the Mac software was buggy.
Contour ROAM 2 was first runner up but no wifi or Bluetooth.
The Panasonic HX-A100 was by far the best option in terms of features, software, and mounting options.
In the end, I sent them all back since at 720p or 1080p at 60fps battery life is about 2 hours.
A Garmin tech volunteered they will be releasing a new Edge model that has a built in camera with an under stem/bar high capacity battery.

biketiresdirect.com has all of their cameras and accessories on sale.
Coupon code cmr0813
The Contour Plus 2 is IMO the best of bunch with bluetooth and GPS built in.

have a gopro

I have a GoPro, not the latest model. Although it claims HD quality, the video quality really sucks in comparison to a real consumer video camera. The newest model may be better.

What's really cool about the GoPro is the variety of mounting options. I've had it on my chest, on my forehead etc.

What's really not cool about the GoPro (apart from video quality) is the look. Super dorky. I will spare the forum the image of it on my forehead but here's one of it on my chest before going out for a run...

Remembering Sandi making low low custom bars on his Feather, I can just see a long DIGI-VID of his knees with the cam on his chest harness... ;)

GoPro

Was at the beach this week and the kids were using GoPro's while skimboarding - mounted on the board, wearing harness on chest, camera stuck in sand. They must be waterproof.

Saw a cute young girl surfing with one mounted on the nose her board, facing back toward her. This was back in June, while in MB and the surf was pretty good so I suspect she had some good video and pictures.

I'd like a remote cam for my Cell, either Bluetooth or mini USB or what ever that is.

Garmin plus points

With the Garmin, it can record ANT+ data along with the video, so you can see things like speed, heart rate (and maybe soon power as well) from other sensors.

Best Buy is offering the Drift Innovation HD720 for $49.99.
Got one for $40.00 yesterday.
Like the waterproof design which eliminates the need for plastic housing.
Has replaceable battery.
Chimes when recording starts/stops or battery is exhausted.
Rotatable lens.
Built in LCD screen for instant replay and easy setting changes.
Video or photo
Comes with a remote and works well with a Mac.

That looks like a pretty good deal but only if it has the needed stuff like the GoPro available.

On a different note but did anyone see the MOH recipient yesterday? There is helmet cam (GoPro) of the event and even scene of the Captain kissing one of his wounded soldiers as he loads him in a helo. A real hero cam for sure!!!

Didn't see the MOH video

But pains me to know that this bone fide hero has been unemployed since his discharge!

Military service adds up for shit to employers these days, no matter what they say in public. Ask me how I know.

All they care about is how much time you sat in a classroom not how much time you spent humping through a desert or cooking on a flight line in some forsaken desert.

One reason I went back to school was this fact, the other is I love science.
