Campy 8 Speed ERGO levers
How to tell if these are Athena or Veloce. I think the Rec/Chorus had the aluminum small levers, so if that is correct I think Athena/Veloce from browsing.
Left shifter is a double.
Any one have some pre 98/99 hoods laying about ?

Those might be Zenon. Why do youi think its a double? It should have 10 clicks or so on the left, and pull more than enough cable to operate a triple.

How are you sure its a double? I don't think they made a double then.

Double? Triple?
My impression (it's been a long time, and I only used doubles then) was that the nice ratcheting system in the left-hand lever had enough pull to handle
either
a double or a triple.

You want Campy # EC-RE500. They might also be Avanti? Those hoods look right.

I did not see any Avanti with the same pattern in the lever etching browsing FWIW. And it seemed like the thumb levers where different on the Avanti pics i looked at browsing, my Campy encyclopedia such as it is.
EDIT: I did see that pattern on an Avanti, initial Avanti levers I looked at maybe 9 speed ?
Just a note: they feel a lot more defined in shifts than the New Success 8s ERGOs I put on my kids commuter.

Those look an awful lot like the Veloce levers I bought about '94. I replaced them with Athena 8-speed when the plastic lever broke, and later converted the Athenas to 9-speed. Those Athena levers are still going strong after a couple of g-spring replacements and perhaps 30,000 miles.
Andy is right; Ergo left levers were always compatible with double and triple. They're not really indexed, unlike Shimano -- just a multi-position ratchet/

1998 Athena
The 1998 Athena 9 speed levers on my 1975 Bill Boston (pointy hoods) have silver shifter levers. The plastic section of the body between the top of the brake lever and the hood says "Carbon".
