It was interesting watching her, as a new solid food consumer, learning to use her trunk. Not quite in control of the thing. She was cute as a 300 lb button though...

Mom kept taking some branches from her she was ill equipped to process with her young teeth. Elaine and I were surprised Mom was eating branches near an 1" in diameter. Until seeing the jaw bones on display with the wide close teeth that could probably grind rocks.

From what I understand they only have 4 teeth.

$ in play at a time, but they get 6 sets of for for a total of 24 over their life. And when they loose that last set they starve and die. And apparently even supplementing food after that is a short term extension of they time they have left.

I guess in captivity controlling the bulk/type of food the teeth will wear down on extends life as the teeth can last longer.
