Here's why:
The IOC creates these press releases just to keep the audience tuned in during odd numbered years.

Sure...
...drop one of the original Olympic sports, but leave in things like rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline and equestrian (where the friggin' horse is the athlete!) to name just a few that should go. The worst offender is in the winter games: curling. Even a morbidly-obese, chain-smoking drunk can slide a rock across ice!. Come to think of it, alcohol - and cabin fever - probably played a large part in that game's creation. Sorry Canada...
The IOC has proven over and over that they are bunch of corrupt morons who are more interested in extorting fat payoffs for their votes than in doing what's right for the Olympic Games. They actually make the UCI look good.

I would try curling in heartbeat but not as a sport, as a game. Like golf if you ask me. It would allow a pint to go with it.
They won't drop wrestling. It is one of the original sports from the earliest times of the Olympics and many lesser countries find it as an area where they can have success.

I was going to ask why golf isn't an Olympic sport.
Then I read this

Golf must be a nod to aging Baby Boomers
In a few years, they'll probably swap it for shuffleboard.
