Coincidentally, I just traveled to Reno to buy a LeMond titanium bike on Craigslist.
I had just completed the purchase when a guy showed up at the garage sale who had inquired about the bike the day before.
We talked for a good while, him having done a bit of research at home in the interim. Turns out he was willing to pay the same $400 I had negotiated, but only wanted the frame for a fixie.

I didn't think that this one looks to be made by Litespeed at all.
Components show an early-1992 prod'n date.
Sparky, does this one look like it was made by the same factory as yours?
The frame has some kind of paint on it, a shiny clear, gray or whatever.

I think maybe so...

It's definitely not the CK "RS" version...

...but it could the be the standard bike. I don't recall the specific model designation.

I have a '96 Litespeed Catalyst and that bike looks very similar except for the seatstay-seatube configuration. That bike has "fastback" stays and mine are faired in with more obvious welds.

if Lemond actually has anything new or interesting to offer

If he offers his same geometry as the Trek days it would be an interesting new offering to me, since I like the geometry. I'd like to see a high end steel and a cross bike like the old Trek/LeMond products.

I'd probably buy on principle alone.

My impression was that the seatstay and detail welds looked too industrial for a Litespeed-built frame, not visible in the photo though.

At least with the painted frame, this early carbon fork actually looks ...good, matching the head and downtube proportions nicely.

For this vintage of bike to have been equipped with a carbon fork, must have been pretty expensive.

I will ride it tonight after measuring it up, replacing the stripped allen head socket seat binder and adjusting the adjustable stem.
Oh, but the shifters are gummed solid, at least at the current temperature.

Also, I think that I recall the competing buyer told me that there were different versions, possibly different builders, of CK (no, not Chris King) frames, and that he thought this one was one of the ones that didn't suffer failures. From his research, anyway. I told him that with the mileage and no cracks yet, it must be one of the good ones ;-)

I'm suprised...

...but the CK comments apparently have some merit. Here's a link to CK information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clark-Kent_%28Bicycles%29
