yeah, my 2000 clav episode was 4 cracked ribs and badly bruised sternum... clav in 7 pieces.
Worst aspect [besides the lack of peristalsis from the ju-ju bee consumption of hydro-condone] was coughing, laughing, sneezing [sneezing, OMG!]. Not to mention using your arms for any assist of getting up, nothing you realized you need to do and did so much. ;O

Ayuh
Before I cracked six last year, I didn't realize that every body movement or function somehow involves the ribs.

Saw Rick earlier this evening...
He's home and fully ensconced in a recliner...
He's not moving around much, nor will he be...for some time...and was pretty knocked out. The good news is that his lungs are clear and he's on the mend. I'll see him again tomorrow or so...
Wheels was there when my spouse and I arrived; good to see him...been some time.

Hardy
As Pete mentioned above, I saw Rick later this afternoon. He is pretty damn sore. He said even said his eyelids hurt. I knew he was in a lot of pain when I walked in and he was "watching" the Saints and 49ers game. He isn't into football or watching TV much. He said he was too lazy to change the channel. I offered to change it and he said didn't matter. He has pain meds, but not much since he didn't do well with Oxycontin/percaset in the hospital. Next couple of days will be real rough.
I tried to cheer him up with some Tastykakes and Ice Cream sandwiches and got a thanks crack of a smile, but his appetite is significantly suppressed. He is frustrated with the whole thing. He doesn't know when they'll operate on his clavicle.
I told him of the forum's well wishes and he appreciated it.

This is going to sound morbid, but do we know how the crash actually happened? About the only good thing that comes out of a crash is learning what actually went down, so we can (if possible) devise a way to avoid it.
As for Rick's depression--is there an address we can send cards/letters/moral support to, either physical or electronic? I have some electronic contact info for him, but in that state I kind of doubt he's able to even us a computer without much pain...

Wow, that really sucks
I'm really sorry to hear about Rick's injuries and I hope he heals quickly.
It makes one wonder if you're better off to slam into a nice, squishy pedestrian that steps out in front of you than to risk your life trying to avoid one? It reminds me of people who crash their cars while trying to avoid hitting a squirrel.
Seriously, it's a split-second decision and the outcome is anything but certain either way.

Get Well Wishes for Rick
Andy M-S and others,
I will stop in and see Rick tonight and ask him about receiving snail or email Get Well wishes.
I know that he has instructed his bride to get his laptop from work, so that he can use it. I don't know if that will be today or tomorrow. His wife decides when he is "ready". Once he has email access, I think sending him with that method would be fine.

Tell Rick to focus on the need to recover so he can win another blueberry pie in Maine next year.

NW Baldy [Rob] got knocked off his bike this morning. Smokes!
He is OK, but got a square hit in the PT Power Tap rear axle. So his PT is dead.
Rains/pours? Shit, but at least he is OK.
Eeesh...

The curse
Man this is bad news all around. As a veteran of several broken bones my sympathies to Rick.
Likewise Rob. There aren't enough of us as it is so stop trying to thin the herd!

Rick - Much Improved since Yesterday
Saw Rick again. Much better than yesterday. More talkative, mobile, and less pain, but still very sore. A good night's sleep seems to really have helped.
He has computer, so he may chime in soon.

Just to clarify
I kept the rubber down. Dude whacked me hard in the axle so the rear got bumped over about two feet, wheel/rim/hub are fubar, but I stayed up and came to a controlled stop. #proskillz
I didn't get any road rash until about 8hrs later when I stepped through one of the gaps in the raised flooring in the data centre and put a lovely gash into my leg. Knocked over the rolling desk I was using and whacked a couple servers. #dumbass

My left calf hurts from running. Hahahah
Rob, and gang we are aging despite Rob's #proskillz we have to accept we aren't what we used to be.

Rick's on the mend...
Saw him earlier this afternoon; big change for the better...
He's making good progress: he's more comfortable, is eating some, most of the pain drugs have washed out and he's fully lucid and aware. Still in pain, but able to get up and walk to the john and around the living room and dining rome some. The mini-laps will help a lot...
Huge difference from 2 afternoons ago.
So far; so good.

Good to hear
Great that Rick's improving. In my case the rib pain abated pretty quickly, hope his goes like that. Others have not been so fortunate.
