Yeah

It's served its purpose. Let's use this thread to think up a new cool poll.

How about...

...a poll to determine if we ought charge posters a $.50/swear word fee. Said fee to be sent to Antn'y as a donation...

Most of us are pretty tired of all the back and forth that ensues...

; >))

Handgun sticky poll? (just kidding)

Based on the length of discussion on the handgun thread, maybe the new poll should ask "should cyclists carry a firearm while riding?"

We could look at the statistics of cyclists who suffer severe injury and add the question about whether they were carrying and hangun as well as whether they were wearing a helmet! No, never mind... (yeah, I know - we're going down the slippery slope of correlation vs. causation... : )

Hey Sparky

If they have to pay for the swear words, that part is not free.

Expressing the concept could still be free. That is, unless we include the cost of the energy used to speak.

Swearing Fee

"$.50/swear word fee"

Well, I just paid $50, so I better get to fucking work.

Hey, can someone please explain to Brodirt not to get so sensitive? On this kind of forum, everyone presents themselves as a combination of persona/real person. I am afraid he has overestimated the "real person" proportion a bit, and allowed his own "real person" to get insulted.

I move that this poll be made sticky - and any polls about changing it should also be made sticky and any polls about the sticky pol threads filling the board should also be made sticky. On second thought, I say we devote this entire board to polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls about polls......................

Maybe the "50 cents per swear word" fee should be inversely correlated to the "I ride with a hand gun" poll.

Uhh . . This May Sound Stoopid, but

What's a swear word?

Yes I know what constitutes swearing.

No I don't think there is a comprehensive list to use to define chargable offenses.

Revenue generating opportunity

How much will you pay to hear a dirty word as opposed to a swear word?

Is `smut' still worth something?

If I wear a helmet and say something smutty, not dirty, but arguably a swear word will I experience traumatic brain injury?

Or would that simply be proof of something?

Good question

The F bomb is not in bible, it says not to use God's name in vain and the F-bomb is not God's name.

Cussing in general is all about what is social acceptable and usually has some sexual or excrement tied to it. We decide what is cussing. I find it kinda funny. Normally cussing is used by folks that don't have a strong vocabulary, to describe their feelings. Other times it is just for the shock value or just to be annoying.

I used to cuss but found in the more professional world I am in now that it is not acceptable. So I don't. Though just like everyone on occasion I may lose my composure and let one fly. It is not the norm anymore.

ErikS

So, Erik, you eschew cussing in favor of polysyllabic circumlocution?

archiving poll results

I created a new "forum" (see text link on upper left side below the little bike) called "Archived Polls". Why don't we try moving old topics (with polls) to this section. If it fails, we'll move 'em back to the main forum. THoughts/comments?

Also, I'd like to see less use of the "f-bomb" here & I like the idea of a $0.50 fine for each use, BUT Coapman would go bankrupt in a few weeks. Ha! ;-) ---antney
