Tom Pidcock on Pog's 81 km breakaway to win Strade Bianche: "WTF?" [full text version]

Pidcock got 4th in this 215km race with 71km of gravel, that some suggest should be a Monument.

I was hoping to watch it on FloBike but it was not available in US :(

So I rode the final stage in the Wahooligan Tour.

I am watching it now [on Peacock]. Not over, but clear for a while how it was going to end. As far as 1st anyway....

I have not done a moderation edit here is at least 5 years, 10? ;)


How fitting his shorts has WHOOSH on them?

He actually announced prior he would attack @ 80KM. He did, and no one could do anything about it..

I didn't find it on Peacock, and still don't. Oh well, I don't use this stuff much.

Yeah, that was some performance. Pogačar attacked at the same place as the last time he rode (and won) the race, but due to the increased distance, it was further from the finish this time. Even though it was pretty clear from a long way out that he was going to win, what was going on behind still made for an interesting race.

The only modern equivalent successful long range attack in a one dayer I can think of is Annemiek van Vleuten's 105km solo attack to win the world championship road race by a couple of minutes in Yorkshire in 2019.

I was able to watch it live on SBS, and if it hadn't been for the minor drama going on behind Pog, it would have been a complete snooze. It was nice to see Tom Skujins overcome some bad luck and finish second.
