Apple Snafu x10 the usual?

Why is all of a sudden USB-C so Apple in the news? As if Apple didn't actually get way late to the party, and it is a Apple revelation or something?

I've using USB-C on stuff going on 2 years now. Not to mention Thunderbolt on my USB-C port that supports monitors and much more...

Go home Apple. ;)

Because the EU forced Apple's hand. Greedy bastards have been pulled back the tiniest little bit in their quest for every bloody dollar they can get and somehow it's news. And of course the Apple marketing team makes it sound like it was all their idea. Fie on them, Fie!

Interested to hear why you dislike it? As a standard I actually prefer it and wish they'd just stop making OEM cables with A on one end and C on the other.

I'm with Rob on this one. Polarized plugs are just stupid IMO.

I see what you mean, asymmetrical. USB A (old school rectangle) is like that, it only goes one way and you NEVER get it right the first time.

USB-C (pill shaped cross section) will go in either way.

The plug is probably micro USB. The Android world has mostly switched to USB C which is asymmetrical, carries more power, and moves data faster. Here is an interesting podcast about the development of USB C:

USB-C is not polarized. Doesn’t matter which way it’s oriented.

It’s in use on recent iPads, Karoo 2 and Garmin 1040 and other cycling computers. In other words, it’s a common cable. I’m glad Apple was forced to abandon Lightining.
