UCI Insanity

I realize the title is redundant, but here's the latest example:
https://www.velonews.com/news/uci-confirms-tour-start-for-late-august-followed-by-giro-vuelta/

The Worlds start on the same day that the Tour ends, so the best riders won't likely be there, at least not in peak form. After that, they're going to cram in the Giro, the Vuelta and the five monuments.

Seriously?

I see a few early TDF Abandons in our future...

Agreed. For some, it's going to be a training race, which is a pretty sad state of affairs.

Racing

Well let’s just hope they can race (safely) on those dates. I signed up for D2R2 8/15, and I’m hoping to ride, but I’m thinking it’s more likely a donation.

We are wondering if our June McKenzie Pass trek planned is even possible, no less a good idea..

Late last year we booked plane tickets and accommodation to fly to Europe at the end of August, do a bit of bike touring through Switzerland, Austria, and Italy, and then spend a week at the World's at Martigny in September. We haven't been told by Singapore Airlines yet that our flight has been cancelled, but the latest news from our government here is that international travel is banned for at least the next four months, so I very much doubt that we'll be able to get there, even if we wanted to.

Wow, that seems pretty extreme at this point in time, but who knows what will happen. We're pretty much resigned to not going to Europe this summer, either, but it will still be there next year...
