Anoither Fallen Star--Age 90
90 y/o cyclist fails drug test---https://www.bbc.com/sport/cycling/46768802
Unknowingly ingested in his meat? Apparently, the drug is used to beef up beef, so I guess it's possible.

Well, the drug he got busted for - epitrenbalone - IS used as a growth enhancer in livestock. I also checked the results and apparently he's the only one who competed in his age group, so it would be pretty stupid and pointless for him to cheat.
Then again, as the old TV commercial asked..."Why do you think they call it dope?"

"had one of Contador’s Spanish steaks."
I said that exactly to Elaine.

Agree with Henoch
Good for him, and seems likely he unwittingly ate a “juicy” steak.
Interesting he won the sprint as the solo entry.

"The guy is out there at 90 riding and racing"
I find it hard to argue his methodology frankly. And I mean that as far less an athlete and being only 2/3 his age. ;)

BTW I don't want my post to come off as being flippant or condoning doping or cheating, but I think this case deserves to be seen through a different lens

I think my post after that one demonstrates my agreement with you. How do you judge a 90 year old still doing what we all probably dream we will be doing near that duration for our own cycling lives...
I can't really. Now if he goes 'postal' on his best friends in denial trashing and calling them liars...
I reserve the right to reverse the judging position.

From the article I read, it seems that he'd also been tested the previous day for another event, and that test was negative, which is probably the reason they were willing to accept his explanation for the positive test the following day.

No. First, He set a world record. The UCI/Usac requires testing to validate a record. He had a double serving of , get this, liver, the night before his second test. Pop quiz, what organ metabolizes steroids in cattle?
Travis Tygart is essentially on record as saying that this was bull and he hopes he sets the record again next year.
The 90 yr old guy, otoh, has been silent and embarrassed, and honestly if I had his address I'd send him a bottle of good cognac, cause he's my hero. But the system bent as far as it could.

My point is that the system is just plain wrong. This guy got screwed over a ridiculously small quantity of a substance that wasn't in his system the day before. Even beyond the fact that it's pretty obvious that this was a case of accidental ingestion of a tiny amount of a banned substance, it couldn't possibly have had any beneficial effect on his performance. It's ridiculous.
