New rear rack, holy smokes this thing is a porker

Got a 'new in the wrappers' EX-1 304 Stainless Rack shipped for $39.00. Saw it at perforamnce on sale for 112.00.

I had googled ans saw a weight of 535 grams. Turns out that was the non stainless one. The package says 1359 grams. Weight weenie Sphincter lock...

I guess to hold 25 lbs more than the AL one, beef is incorporated.

;)

Stainless racks seem to be heavier than CrMo ones. Tubus make some of their racks in both CrMo and stainless, and the stainless versions run a few ounces heavier.

I have a Tubus Cargo CrMo rack, which weighs about 530g and is rated for carrying 40kg. How much is your stainless rack supposed to cope with?

Rack

My Tout Terrain has an integral stainless rack. 34 lbs, who's counting? Better than having 20 lbs in a backpack....

40kg == 88lbs

This is what Tubus say on their web site: "Maximum admissible load capacity for this carrier is limited to 26 kg /57.3 lbs. as ISO 11243:2016 allows mounting a child seat from an admissible load of 27 kg /59.5 lbs. or more. The carrier is not allowed for mounting a child seat and consequently not allowed for transporting children; therefore load capacity has to be limited to 26 kg/57.3 lbs. The carrier was successfully tested according ISO 11243:2016 with a test load of 40 kg?/?88.1 lbs., however, due to the above-mentioned legal reasons it is only admissible for a maximum load of 26 kg/57.3 lbs."

Tubus are pretty conservative with their ratings. My touring bike has a Tubus Tara front rack, which is rated for 14kg/33lbs, but I've ridden thousands of kilometres with a lot more weight than that hung off it, as I use just front panniers and no rear panniers.
