Browser tip
While looking up ways to cook a corned beef brisket (Happy St. Patrick's Day,) I had a few tabs open to infernal web sites. All that advertising started to make the laptop skittish.
These days sites are getting savvy about ad blockers, but this was a time when the blocker was on and none of the sites asked to be exempted.
This is a Firefox (with today's update applied) fix, but I know Chrome, Vivaldi and Edge also have this mode, Safari in the iPhone too.
The Tip:
In Firefox, on the URL line an icon like an open book or a piece of paper with text sometimes appears: "Reader Mode."
It renders a page with greater emphasis on the text, it also tends to ignore CSS. This is the first time I've tried to use it against advertising.
When I clicked reader mode for all six tabs my CPU, memory and disk use all went down. The CPU dropped from about 25% to less than 5%, memory by about a quarter.
Top o' the mornin' to ye.
