Who is skiing where and when this winter?

Without realizing it, I have gradually changed from a hard core cycle-aholic to become a (semi) ski-aholic. Over the past couple years, I've biked less and less, whilst skied more... and more!

I'm going out to Colorado over Christmas/New Year (and a bit beyond). I got the MAX pass, which covers Copper, Winter Park, Steamboat, and Eldora

Then, sometime in mid-to-late Feb, I'll be going to Salt Lake City, skiing Solitude & Brighton. Followed by Big Sky, with a stop in Yellowstone as well.

I know some of the regulars also exchange their bikes for skis for the next few months...

If you're referring to x-country, I ski both classic and skate styles around the
Montreal area in winter. Skating is harder than it seems but it's awesome when or if you begin to somewhat master the technique.

If youre referring to downhill ... not me.

Been alternating classic with skate for a month around town on ungroomed trails, but a warm up has turned things to ice until the next snow.

Cross country roolz, alpine drools!😉

Cyclists and xc-skiers

They’re like twins. Or actually they are two of the same?

Getting into rhythm, putting one foot in front of the other, smoothly and methodically. Waiting for the endorphin furnace to come on... Breathing, heart rate, then the exhilarating downhill!

I live near one of the largest xc skiing trail network of the eastern US. So yes, I go whenever there’s good snow, which unfortunately is not that often.

But just like I’m bored of riding the same roads around my home area, I’m also falling out of love with xc skiing the same trails after so many years.

More over, I’ve gravitated towards downhill skiing more and more. Whilst snow quantity and quality in the northeast left a lot to be desired, I’ve taken to making many trips out west as often as I can, where mountains are bigger, snow is fluffier and scenery are far more dramatic.

I bring both my downhill and xc skis with me when I go out west.

In my February trip to Utah and Montana, I have plan to do a bit of xc skiing in Yellowstone. Geysers and bisons et al.

Too bad I'm leaving Colorado before you arrives. Steamboat is my favorite.

I'll be in Utah around that same time frame (date not yet firm).

Whistler! Yum...

This is the 1st time I have Okemo on my pass (MAX Pass, 5 days). So I'll try to use it when condition looks promising. Would be cool to take a few turns together.

When flying with your skis, do airlines charge as much as a bike box?

No, not as much.

It’s counted as a piece of “regular” baggage. $25(?) each way.

Ski baggage

Skis are regular baggage, and you can combine a ski bag and a boot bag to count as one piece of luggage. They don't need to be physically connected in any way (tagged separately) but the total weight needs to be less than 50# or you get hit with overweight fees.

April, once you get your Utah dates nailed, let me know and maybe we can connect.
