Yeah, I have no interest in FS. Heck, I used the Trek 730 with 45C fire CX tires as my Single Track bike for 3 years in TN, and another here for calmer stuff after I got the stumpjumper built up.

On this topic, what is the opinion of the bikesdirect.com offerings?

Last time I looked, I decided that Nashbar offered a better deal overall when the Ruddy was on sale at around $700 plus tax.

BD has several models...
...and they seem to be adding more all year round. Their hardtail offerings are bargains, but I have no idea if their full-suspension frames are any good. FWIW, I've had good luck with them and their service is excellent.

The only good plus bikes that bd has right now are their dual-susp models starting at $2k.
Their Gravity hardtail plus bike is at best one step up in quality from my aluminum Huffy from Walmart, but costs about the same $700 as the upscale Mongoose Ruddy from Nashbar. They just don't seem to be in it to win it with their hardtail plus bikes at the moment...
EDITED:
I just used a different link on their site to fine the Motobecane plus hardtails, these are more in line with the Nashbar Mongoose for price/features.
What a huge (2-3X) jump in price to get into plus f/s territory though.
BD's website is quirky with seemingly similar links showing different assortments of bikes. Has been that way for years.
