Climate Change comes to Maine
This morning it's -2F. Tomorrow we get about 5" of snow, which turns to a mix and then rain as the temp rises. Sunday is rain and a high of 50, then by Monday morning it's down to 8. Monday maybe I'll just skate into work.

So what is the change? The rain instead of just snow?

Just Dan bit*ching about the cold snap.
PITA as it's been just barely nice enough to keep on the roads, now it's butt friggn freezing all in one day.
Climate change of some sort is happening though and pretty quick it seems. I've been heading up to central/northern Maine for fall camping for about 15 years. Last few years we've been able to go 2 weeks later and see the same temp's we saw in mid. Sept. a while back. Definitely a pattern.

Change
The climate change I'm referring to is temperature swings and frequent melting/freezing cycles, characteristic of climate change. Below 0 today, 50 on Sunday, 8 Monday morning. Snow falls, melts and refreezes within hours.
Steve, I like cold weather, won't bitch about that.

Here we were cycling in a max temperature of 33C/91F on Wednesday and 10C/50F yesterday...

Dan, that's not climate change...
...it's just typical New England weather. Perhaps the ol' memory is starting to slip a little... ;-)

memory
I remember when there was a January thaw, not 15 thaws starting in December.
Actually if this chain of events leads to good iceskating on the river I'll be happy. But there may be to much snow for it to refreeze as good ice.

The amount glaciers have receded over the last decade is incredible. How many glaciers are left in Glacier National Park?

Proceeding apace
Got I'd say about 8" yesterday, then freezing rain, now about 40 and raining, down to 2F tomorrow am. Worked out OK as I was able to snowshoe all around the woods this am even though it was lightly raining, then easy to get the crap off the porch, stairs and roof when it was wet. Have to take the windows of opportunity. Will be slick tomorrow. Breaking trail with snowshoes through heavy snow with a light crust is a hell of a workout.

Will do
The river's still a bit crusty, but seems pretty solid (not that I'm ready to test it yet...). I was back there yesterday.
