Parks in NJ

Does anyone know of any good parks in NJ to ride a road bike? Thanks.

Lots. Which part of the state are you interested?

Central Nj

Sandy Hook national park. Plenty of parking and cyclists. Nice views, smooth pave, pancake flat, with the occasional headwind. Visited there today.

Presumably and because you are asking about parks, you want to ride on paved bike paths ?.

Have you Googled "Bike paths in parks in New Jersey" or some variation ?.

Also check the Rails to Trails Conservancy. They have a pretty comprehensive listing of trails that are converted railroad right-of-way's, many of which are part of a park system, or parks themselves.

I'm not really up on NJ, as I do not live there, but have ridden the gravel rail trails along the Delaware River from Milford down to Trenton, on both sides of the river. As well, there's the Delaware to Raritan Canal path that connects to the Delaware River trails at Trenton and runs up to Brunswick.

Just found this as well:

Note that a lot of rail trails are gravel/crushed stone/hard packed dirt. Typically you'd want a 28mm or larger tire, so gravel/cross/touring bikes, or mt. bikes are the ideal bike for these paths.

FWIW, a Google Map view in Bicycle mode from the menu shows bicycle friendly and dedicated, paved, non paved etc on the map.

Example of Portland, OR

NJbikemap

Agree. Used it all the time when I lived in New Hope and did about half my riding across the river. Western NJ north of Washington's Crossing is like Vermont.
