Former Episcopal Bishop Heather Cook was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in prison for killing a cyclist in a drunken crash days after Christmas.


Given her previous DUI record, I do not understand how this sentence is adequate.

Our local bike club sent members to attend the sentencing of a guy who ran over from behind (and killed) a member who was riding in the bike lane.

The driver had a previous dui, and though did not have a therapeutic range of drugs in his system at the time (6:30AM). He was convicted of manslaughter.
I think he did time served plus an additional year or so, which doesn't do too much to address the threat he poses unless the jail time gets him off drugs for good.

I suspect that in Europe, neither of these killers would ever be allowed to drive again.
