I am impressed, 70 year old rider I've been riding with.
Quick back story. Flatted last year and while fixing the flat 'John' came over from his house on his MTN bike with a floor pump. Which is always better than small jersey pocketable pump. :) So short intro then, pumped up and got rolling, new tube was already in when he saw me and came over.
I stopped in early this year to say hello etc. He had a surgery on his elbow and wrist to fix what was keeping him off the bike for a few seasons. Elbow nerve impingement & carpal tunnel both. Had not heard of the elbow portion beyond the wrist tunnel issue, yada.
So I have been working with him to help his legs recover these last few months. It was obvious right away his experience and temerity. He progressed to 30 mile flatish @ reasonable speeds 16+ AVG with in the first few rides.
So 5-6 weeks in here is what we did yesterday. I pray I can ride like him when I am his age. He is snapping back fast considering he has not ridden more than a few miles in a few seasons.
The obvious climb in the ride was an option. I really made it clear about it's profile [being intimate with it personally] and let him decide if it was time. Triples Chain Rings all the way. ;) One anaerobic stop for recovery 3/4 up, I told him to not to go to a bigger gear due to the two kicks, he may listen better next time. ;)
He texted me last night and said he felt great!
