OT: Thoughts of Nepal

Can't imagine what the people in and around Nepal must have experienced and what they're going through right now. Having experienced first hand the 1989 7.1 shaker that hit San Francisco, I was amazed when I heard the initial reports that the ground was shaking for minutes in Nepal.

One of my London-based colleagues was preparing to climb Everest. Here's a link to an article about her escape: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/nepal/11565053/Mount-Everest-disaster-British-woman-Selina-Dicker-who-outran-avalanche.html

If you get a chance - click on the video link. Scary stuff.

My sister did a trek on the Annapurna circuit last year (150 miles of walking in 2 1/2 weeks, including a 17,700' pass), and spent a week in Kathmandu. She loved the city. It looks as if it is really devastated.

A friend of mine was just in Kathmandu two weeks ago, with his fiancée. Timing is everything . . .
