conundrum, or rather conundisc ??

Went to look at some sweet used Campy Track Rims to use as a rimset for these XTR wheels/hubs. Omega Strada Hardox semi aero. Unfortunately although near mint from only indoor and non brake use, 36 hole and not 32 as advertised.

Good cheaper alternative to HEDs and H+ sons, no less carbon, especially cost wise. The limiting factor being narrow old school VS 22-5mm wide current offerings.

HED now has Belgium disk only without machining or even the brake track cast into the product. 150.00 a pop make you look towards carbon for that cost. I do not want extra material for a brake trake on disk rims.

H+ Sons Archetype looking like the best cost/weight/profile solution. Or do I buck up and get the CHN carbon ultra light [@ 350 most] for 292.00 shipped.

Begs the question, how compliant will a 23mm sq carbon rim be in a 32 spoke wheel, disc wheel.

Also wondering if front and rear OC rims like Velocity makes might not make for an improvement worth pursuing given dish front and back of a disc wheelset.

May wind up with something form BHS.com, only no disc only in what he has I would use until January according to email query.

I wish Walter had some more HED in 32 spoke to move out. ;) Oops, machined brake tracks. ;)

I was looking for lightweight 26" rims, preferably aero and carbon, to upgrade the basic set on the tandem. I can't seem to find any aero MTB rims. Strange. At the speed the cross-country guys go, aero counts...

Enve M90, 26 Rim is 34mm and made for downhill. That is getting there aero wise.

Pacenti TL28 still a bit wide, but certainly light. What tires are you running on the Tandem? Or plan on running with new wheels if different?

I don't think I'd go much lighter than 487 on a tandem. Any idea what the originals weigh?

We for sure would not. Being like 420lb on/with the bike and all. But Sandi & Co are not only gobs lighter, 26" instead of 700C etc. Especially if event wheels, with lots of spokes.

The TL28 is under 400gr, that seems scarey on the surface.

Did you look on Fleabay for a Chinese supplier?

I have had fantastic luck with my wheels (just took them off for the go slow season) and I bet they have 26 inch wheels over there for you type of application.

Had a lengthy convo with Kirk Pacenti today. We had a few things in common which was a little funny.

I have decided to go with the SL25, although an SL23 with the non brake track would have been fine. 25mm wide for road is pushing it I think, as much as I like wide rims. These are 2.5mm wider internally the Belgiums and A23s [being the same]. And 2mm wider then the SL23.

About $C less than the eBay CHN Carbons. Now which spokes to use? Thinking Lasers, even though Sapim says non disc use. I used DT revos on my first set I built way back when. Not afraid of dealing with twisting during the build.
