You have a choppy pedal stroke:) Real winter training involves snow and cold.

I don't have the courage to get on a trainer this winter.

Tire slipping on the trainer roller? :)

I have been a slave to the computrainer this winter as serious work is needed to try to get back the wattage output I once had but no longer have due to my accident inactivity last year...... NOT FUN!

You look like an anorexic compared to the belly I got.
Which diminished noticeably by Feb. with all the riding I have been getting in. ;)

I can't tell if that chop is the VID or you?? Lower the seat for a few days and stay over 100 RPMs maybe..

I thought is was Putin at first when I came into the thread, but you had a shirt on which gave it away ;)

oh, its ALL ME...

...late in a workout, still pushing a big gear = chop. looks even worse when you divide a pedalstroke into 4 points. i eyeballed a video i have of rahsaan bahati getting a bike-fit, and despite the massive difference in power there's not much visual difference in terms of smoothness. if you think thats bad, you shoulda seen my pedalstroke when i was recovering from a spinal cord injury & surgery -- it was U-G-L-Y!

i'm sure everyone here considers them-self something approaching the 2nd coming of jacques anquetil, but the truthful eye of the camera lens will reveal just how much stuff is moving about when youre a cyclist "of a certain age".

Slop in pedal stroke

Bill Black an old poster here recommends:

"sustainability is also helped by avoiding dead spots in your stroke, which kill momentum and waste energy -- start your pedal stroke earlier (@ 11:30) and end it sooner (@5:30), as that helps to take dead spots out of your stroke and assists with the quickness of your spin-up and top end turnover."

I find if I concentrate on this I get higher power output, as it is a weakness of mine not having the "snap" to be able to quickly close a gap by getting the wheel quickly as I am more of a "diesel er" closing the gap slowly after a few accelerations will wear you out....so I am working on this on the trainer this and every winter....

Man!

>>start your pedal stroke earlier (@ 11:30) and end it sooner (@5:30)<<

If a pedal stroke takes six hours, I hope you and Bill are pushing pretty big gears!

"pedal stroke takes six hours"

LOL, glad I did not have a beverage in my garb...

" if you think thats bad, you shoulda seen my pedalstroke when i was recovering from a spinal cord injury & surgery -- it was U-G-L-Y!"

My computrainer still show a deficiency in my right leg [15 months post Femoral Nerve Pinch] in the zone it should be the strongest. But I am used to my left getting with the program in the dominance arena post right side 06 tib/fib recovery.

But considering the diagnosis was sensory aspects of the nerve, this shows they missed it. But I do not care, it is little compared to some of us that are off the bike from an injury.

Let me share a technique I think may help.

While pedaling your circle accentuate power output is different parts of the cycle/clock.

I do this for recovery and also to keep moving when a muscle group gets tired.

Accentuate power further/later each stroke, in the clock positions. 3:, 4: 5: 6: 7: 8: o'clock. It give me some quad rest-covery and builds the hamstrings a bit more generally.

Walter, approx watts being output during said chop?

BTW

I suggest bending your elbows, relaxing your shoulders and keeping a quieter upper body (hey, if you're gonna post a picture like that, you've gotta take shots from the peanut gallery! :)

Which is one among several reasons why I'll never post one...

Actually I was thinking you are looking pretty lean there Walter. I still wish I had bought that Time frame from you.

the first GIF is my most extreme reach position "on the tips" which seems to exacerbate whatever tendency i have to shift fore-aft.

riding on the tops i'm alot quieter:

gonna go out on a limb...

...and state that my pedaling chop is unremarkable. pixel-peeping a pedalstroke broken into 4 frames makes everyone look pretty sloppy.

You don't have a paunch dude. Bike riding positions all cause folks to have their belly hang.

Though lean. I will send you a lean pic.

Dude I don't post selfies but I do have them for a way to track my fitness. My wife likes them too. ;). Walter got a tame one sent to him. Hahaha!

The human form is the most fantastic machine that has ever evolved. Our mind is of course not matched and our endurance is tops in most areas.

I am very proud of my physique I work VERY HARD for it. My body is the only thing that I have total control of, no matter what. Barring illness that can't control, I will be everything I can for as long as I can.

Walter and I communicate off forum very often and are good friends from afar.

Always remember to wear your ski cap while riding your trainer indoors.
