OT: WSJ on drivers

Hmmm Sandiway, April, Wheels, any others?

Didn't Sandiway abandoned the BMW cult when he finally got tired of the costs of keeping it running? IIRC, he now owns a Lexus of some sort.

In keeping with this WSJ report I'll repeat a joke I posted here quite a while ago:

Q: What's the difference between a porcupine and a BMW?
A: The porcupine has the pricks on the outside.

not off the hook

I think Sandiway is labelled for life. Besides, if memory serves, he has/had a Bimmer motorcycle as well. Double Bimmer.

And I seem to recall a lawyer from PA with a M5.

In response to Dave's joke, I saw this posted on another forum:

>>A couple years ago at the lemons race in Buttonwillow, I remember some friendly guys driving a crowd-pleasing 80s bimmer 3 series dressed in brown and white with fiberglass quills. They claimed that the pr**ks were on the outside!

Can't open the article at work.

I see, it's not an article, it's a video. What the f*k? HAve I been living in a cave for the last few years? WSJ now a TV station? (no more written words -- no more news- paper ?)

I would dispute the equivalency of BMW cars with motorcycles.

Of course Beemer riders do have a few issues of their own, or at least they used to. Maybe now that they sell straignt-line engines, they no longer sell the Tshirts for men that say "It's hard to be humble with a shaft like mine," and the one for the wife that says "It's the Jugs that make the difference."

Still, a Beemer is not a Bimmer.

Get the FiretrUCK off My Road.....

A$$holes.

While there maybe "some" truth in the data, I have seen complete A$$holes in all makes and models.

When I drive my M3, I'll admit I like to drive a little spiritedly. What I mean by that is I'll punch to pass someone and then get back in the lane and resume my previous speed. What I do find is lots of jerks want to "race" me, especially Infiniti's G35/G37. They ride my bumper.

When I am in my BMW wagon, nobody cares.

I do find that the 3-series 20-40 y.o. males think that they arein race, everyone be damned.

Guilty as charged, though in mitigation I'd like to point out it was a humble wagon not a wannabee boy-racer full-on asshat M3 with rims that dent if you drive over a small pebble :)

Sandiway

PS the thumper is actually cool, though I haven't ridden it in years...

Case in point

A guy just moved onto my street with a 3 series. The license is AUDILOL. I have an A4, but I fully support this guy's right to feel good about himself, and I resist the temptation to tape on BMWLMAO.

Another guy on the street has a car I do envy - a vintage Saab SPG.

It was a better joke as porcupine vs Porsche, it sounded better.

What do you think to would happen...

...if they did a survey of pickup truck drivers vs. car drivers. I suspect that it wouldn't even be close.

Isn't there some quote about not attributing to malevolence what can more readily be accounted for by incompetence?

Rather than the aggressive beamer driver or even pick-up driver, I'd guess the greater threats to cyclists are distracted moms in minivans, teenagers of any ilk and elderly drivers who have no business operating a motor vehicle any longer.

Nobody said it was ALL such drivers...

...just that problems and bad behavior are more common among those groups. In both cases, I'm sure the majority of drivers are just fine.

Frankly, I see more problems with all "luxury" brand cars, but that may be because I ride on Cape Cod a lot, where there's a combination of wealthy, self-important locals and upscale, aggressive a-hole tourists (NY and FL drivers are the worst). Fortunately, the tourist season ends shortly.

Dumped the M5, much as I loved it (actually loved the E28 M5 more, had that one for a long time). I'm driving an old Benz wagon now, like an old man. Still have an old Carrera though, so I'm not dead yet.

I think its kind of a chicken and egg thing. My girlfriend (are you still a girlfriend if you're in your 50's?) has a 3 series, and the thing has so much more spirit than the Benz that I find I can be a bit of an asshat when I drive it. Even though its a lowly 323, the fact that the car just loves rpms eggs you on.

>>Are you still a girlfriend if you're in your 50s?<<

I suggest you not pose that question to her....:)

Depends on how old she is, I would guess.
