Jens Voigt
Gotta love this guy.
Here's an anecdote that was posted on the Guardian UK's live feed from today's Alpe D'Huez stage:
"No doubt you saw this on L'Equipe's website today," writes Adam Glasser. "Jens recounts an incident in which he was riding alone behind a break but in front of the main pack and wanted to give his last empty bidon to a kid at the side of the road. He rides over to the right hand side of the road and rolls it towards the kid when he saw an adult man elbow the kid aside and grab the bidon for himself.
"Jens then rides a few metres on, thinks this is not right, and goes back to find the guy. The crowd are freaked out because they think he is abandoning the race. Instead he stops and asks him to give the bidon to the kid for whom it was intended! The guy shamefacedly takes it out of his rucksack and gives it to the kid ... and he then says ok that's cool and continues with the race!!! Surely a legendary Tour anecdote - I hope he wins a stage!"

Always liked Voigt
Class act, great competitor, and leader. He's a "blue collar" hard working rider, the has the true cycling passion. I understand also he is a great father and husband.
When he retires, he will be sorely missed.

I'll say I think he has something like 8 kids! ;)
no wonder he works so hard on the bike!

High Praise
I received a great compliment a couple years ago after I crashed on a century cracking some ribs and puncturing a lung, then got up, fixed a flat and rode the 8 miles to the finish. A couple weeks later I was having lunch with some guys and described this fiasco, and a local racer said "that's like Jens Voight."

Got to love stuff like this....
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."
—Jens Voigt's philosophy about breakaways.
Pretty simple philosophy. Now you know why the guy loves to attack.
Rick-
Only 6 kids.

Dude drives a minvan, which left him stranded on the road last fall. He tweeted pics of it on the wrecker and even then was lighthearted about things. He is by far my favorite in the peleton.

Would love to see Jens and Bobke in the commentary booth next year...that would be a hoot.

Loved Voigt's Interview on Tour Program last night
Insightful interview last night after race was over. Voight thought tactics for TJ Vangarderen, after mechanical, were not well thought out. Said if he had just waited 20 seconds, we could have helped him recover and he could have used us to help chase. Instead we were all singles burning through lots of energy. Ended interview with "Okay I am tired now".

I really hope...
...that he becomes a TV commentator after he retires. He's got way too much personality to waste.

That interview was a classic. Jens is the coolest guy in the peloton, a genuine character.
