Star Trek fans ? Into Darkness anyone? [Spoiler Alert]

Saw both the 2D yesterday, and the 3D with Elaine today.

I can say it is well suited for 3D, and I am not into that generally. But it added a lot IMO.

Anyone else see it yet before we get to a spoiler alert?

I plan on seeing, don't spoil it but I am smart enough not to look at this thread again.

So, if he is smart enough to not come back until after he sees it... How come he is not smart enough to figure out it won't matter what is said if he won't read it until after it won't matter? ;O

I do find his reasoning somewhat illogical.

Dammit, Sparky!

I'm a bicyclist, not a Start Fleet officer!

So...

Any spoilers you'd care to share? I found the "villain" interesting, and not unexpected. The tribble was a little much, though.

I thought the Nimoy cameo totally unneeded and should have wound up on the cutting room floor. Too Shat-ishly hokey to me. Let's just move on with this.

Simon Peg; excellent. Zoey Saldana; excellent. Bones!... etc etc

The new 'Carol Marcus' actor; going to see more of her I'd say. ;). Robo Cop as Admiral Marcus, kind of cheesy as most of his acting is 'Peter Weller' and I found his 'new' super ship 'Marvel Comics IM3' hokey to a degree, and the Batman black look... You get the idea.

All the main characters are cast so well and are all 'to me' are great.

The usual Gene Rodenbury Political Power hidden agenda in the story line is true to his writing IMO. Albeit perhaps stronger than GR, less subtle. ;)

The Nemesis played by Benedict Cumberbatch I thought was very good. Modernized Kahn is fine with me. They hid that it was him in plain site making one think the face in the cryo tube was him. I knew
it was him, but Elaine did not catch it until he said his name in a brig scene

I had enough of the lens flashes already, LOL.

3D was really worthwhile as I said. It helped define the fast moving stuff due to the dimensionality added... well, to fast moving stuff. A few foreground 3D out of focus items in shots was annoying to me. That kind of thing is what makes 3D gives me a headache and why I usually and not interested. I happened to have taken aspirin before
I sent, just a lucky happenstance. ;)

I may seek out a 3D I-Max and see it again. The movie for me is a multi watch at the level of Jedi after seeing the Speeder bit. Good stuff if yo like this kind of stuff. Which I do obviously..

It may have been a little too faithful for me.

I was never a huge Kirk fan, and I feel like that's confirmed here. Kirk was always the action captain, with Spock acting as his thinker. Here, Spock thinks less and Kirk is pretty much unchanged. The result is less Star Trek and more Action Film. Personally, I always liked Picard, a thinking person's captain.

But was unforgivable to me was the amount of giveaway. On Weller's desk--oh, look, a big black starship that makes the Enterprise look tiny. A dying tribble and we're going to inject superblood and see what happens. Only ONE tribble???

Spock says "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!"

I say, "ABRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMS!"

I guess you missed the STNG episodes with the DIX persona non grata. ;)

I jest, but do understand what you mean. But the re-dux of Spock in particular seem to portray the conflict with-in, et al.

It is all good to me...

What was scary was me telling Elaine about Praxis being blown up in Undiscovered Country [worst of the bunch probably] also doing a cameo, well the small percentage of it that was left. ;). What a nerd she proclaimed. :0

She hated the original series, and Shat just plain annoys her. I like Keven Pollack as Kirk even better than Shat personally. ;)

Yeah, Lucas sold Disney the entire franchise. Sound Light and Film. I saw that, Disney now has it all. Pixar, Marvel, and now Lucas, and probably a bunch more I can't recall...

With my luck...

I'd be stuck vetting Jar-Jar Binks!
